UFO Chile #1 - April 1968

Here is ufology bulletin of Chile "UFO Chile" No. 4, page 6, published in Chile in April 1968. Impossible to find so far outside Chilean ufological circles, the newsletter was sent to me with mayn other treasures by an 87-year-old veteran Chilean ufologist in 2018, and is presented here for the first time with reproduction of the original pages, and my transcripts in Spanish, French, and English.

last Wednesday, a Navy Sub-Officer (who asked us not to disclose his name) told LA NACION yesterday "to have seen something perched on some hills of Quillota that emitted such an intense light that he thought that it was a house, at the beginning". But then, with time and by the characteristics of the object, the people who accompanied it agreed that it was a "flying saucer". It was around 7 p.m.. In Viña del Mar, it was seen about two hours before. And curiously, in Australia, the same phenomenon was also observed last Wednesday.

(Excerpt from "La Nación", 1st and 7th February 1968)

(NOTE: It may be interesting to note that several of the early observations of this year were between 30° and 35° south latitude, like all the Chilean cases cited here, the two Australian cases of Koorda published in the press, two in Concepción de Uruguay, Argentina, Villacisneros and Gualeguayachá, also in Argentina, Treinta and Tres and Chuy en Urugay).

CASE No 5

Northwest of Santiago

(Approximately 33° 24' to 21' South and 70° 55' W)

February 14, about 7:50 p.m.)

Probably the same day as the case No. 3 of Viña del Mar (since the witnesses are not sure if it was on the 13th to the 14th), a similar phenomenon was observed from the land "Los Mirlos", located at kilometer 22 from the Pan-American Highway NW of Santiago. The witnesses, the farmer Juan Bulnes Aldunate, his wife and a daughter, claim to have observed a quarter of an hour after sunset (thus around 07:50 p.m.) a very long object towards the Southwest, of bright yellow color, luminous. The sky was totally clear and they had first taken the object for a cloud. It appeared to be located north of Pudahuel Airport, and was moving slowly along its longitudinal axis to the north. The observation lasted about 5 minutes. The strange thing about this case is that sometimes the front end of the object curved slightly upward and with that the object rose, and sometimes, it bent up and down, still moving forward.

When it had crossed an angle of about 5°, it curved again in its light at the end, downwards, after that it continued to bend until it was completely vertical, descending, lengthening and dissolving until disappearing.

Based on the location of the nearby hills, they calculated the distance of the object as about 10 kilometers, and its length as about 50 meters.

CASO Nº 5

Al NW de Santiago

(Aprox. 33° 24’ a 21’ Sur y 70º 55’ W)
