ACUFO:

ACUFO is my comprehensive catalog of cases of encounters between aircraft and UFOs, whether they are “explained” or “unexplained”.

The ACUFO catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file.

France, on June 8, 1943:

Case number:

ACUFO-1943-06-08-FRANCE-1

Summary:

The American ufologist Peter Davenport set up in the 2000s a website, the “National UFO Reporting Center” (NUFORC), allowing people to submit, anonymously or not, their testimony of UFO sightings, which were then recorded in a database and visible on this website.

There is a testimony received in 2003 about a 5-minutes sighting with the approximate date of June 8, 1943, at 2 p.m. local time, somewhere over France:

The reporting witness told that he was a left waist gunner on a B-17, when the 7-men crew saw a light, the altimeter “went crazy and kept going from sea lvl to 10000 ft even though we were flying higher”; none of the other instruments failed according the what the pilot told.

The thing, described as “lights on object, aura or haze around object”, stayed with the plane for about 5 minutes.

The witness said that the gunners wanted to shoot it but the pilot said “if it was hostile it would have killed us by now.” The flight engineer thought it was a German secret weapon.

NUFORC Note:

Date is approximate. PD

Aircraft information:

The U.S. B-17 “Flying Fortress” was a heavy bomber fitted with five 7.62 machine guns for its defense against enemy fighter planes.

B-17 formation.

Discussion:

Map.

The issue with the report is of course that it is only a web report, hence its credibility remains unknown.

The pilot's comment, “if it was hostile it would have killed us by now” is similar to that of the witness in the Klagenfurt case of November 24, 1944.

Evaluation:

Possible extraterrestrial craft, unknown credibility.
