Rome, September 18. -- A mysterious apparatus crossed, yesterday afternoon, the sky of Rome. It was observed during approximately 40 minutes by the observation station of the military commander of the Ciampino airfield. According to information given by the airfield, it is a "craft" having the shape of a "cigar" flying at a slow speed at approximately 1200 m of altitude. A trail of luminous smoke was released from its narrowest end.
While following the maneuvers of the craft, the observation station of Ciampino noted that it made at one time a 400 m fall to take again altitude, while passing from the horizontal position to the vertical position.
At the time when the craft moved away towards the sea, the aerodrome of Ciampino announced its presence to the military control station of Pratica di Mare, at about thirty km of Rome, which succeeded in picking it up on their radar set and following it during some tewnty minutes. The radar had reported the presence of an antenna at the center of the machine.
