MYSTERIOUS AIRSHIP

SEEN AT OPOHO.

DUNEDIN, July 28.

An Opoho resident claims to have seen the airship at Opoho, North-East Valley at 2 o'clock this morning. He says he was awakened by the great noise.

LIGHTS APPEAR AT INVERCARGILL.

INVERCARGILL, July 28.

A mysterious light in the sky was seen at Orepuki last night, described as like the headlight of an engine but much brighter. Sometimes it was stationary, while at others it travelled fast, passing over the Princess Range. It was also seen at Wairio on Saturday night in the centre of a black body.

OAMARU, July 29.

On Monday night between 6.30 and 9 about half a dozen persons state they saw in their direction, of the Kakanui range a light apparently attached to an airship, which moved along the ranges. At a later hour it rose higher and disappeared over the lower hills in the direction of Dunedin. The light was quite distinct and was seen through binoculars.

ARE THEY FIRE BALLOONS?

AUCKLAND, July 29.

A statement by a local dealer in fireworks that he has recently sold a number of fire balloon, this being a peculiar demand except on festive occasions may be taken as explaining the mysterious lights seen overhead at night in Auckland and probably elsewhere.
