UFOs in the daily Press:

Unusual object near the Obiou, France, 1978:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré, France, on January 13, 1978.

An unusual object seen at high altitude not far from the Obiou

Grenoble. -- If we are to believe the testimony of Mr. Ronat de La Mure, something extraordinary happened on January 7, 8 and 9 around 8 p.m. in the Obiou mounts.

"I would like to inform you of a disturbing fact (...) around twenty people whose good faith cannot be doubted saw an unusual object at high altitude in the vicinity of Obiou".

Mr. Ronat's curiosity had been doubly motivated because as a researcher and investigator accredited by the Ouranos study commission, any flying object, and what is more unidentified, is worthy of interest. With an alert mind, Mr. Ronat collected the words of the witnesses still stunned by the incredible spectacle. "The object had a volume comparable to twice Venus in its full scintillation, it had an irregular south-south-east, south-west-east trajectory. It remained motionless for a short time before resuming its course. For three successive days, it remained visible for an hour."

What to make of such observations? What to deduce? Mr. Ronat believes he can affirm "that it was not a question of sounding balloons, nor of an experimental probe, nor of an ionized plasma."

Troubling appearance certainly, which leaves Mr. Ronat perplexed: "It is a disconcerting fact; I would however like to specify that I am not advancing any hypothesis..." An affair to follow...
