The Mystery of Trénal

Even today, the Trénal case continues to spark conversation. And it remains a mystery.

In 1971, on that day, Father Camus saw a flying saucer landed on the ground, "topped with a dome" and "with luminous rectangles on the sides."

The engine of his car then slowed down on its own as he approached the craft. Three beings dressed in black, "with a lobe around their heads and an ant-like face," approached the vehicle while others busied themselves around the craft, he recounted. The next day, his children took photos of the marks left on the frozen ground. At the landing site, they also felt the warmth of the earth. As for his wife, she claimed she was unable to wash off the fluorescent rectangles left on the t-shirt her husband had worn the previous evening. Unfortunately, three days after the incident, two men "wearing ties and well-dressed" came to their home to collect the photographs. The evidence thus mysteriously disappeared, further fueling the enigma.

The Champagnole case from last August, however, seems to have found an explanation. The strange luminous shapes spotted in the sky by residents were most likely lanterns released during a wedding in a nearby town.

"We still need to carry out a few more checks," confirmed Raymond Taffin on Friday evening. But, in all likelihood, the UFO hypothesis seems to be ruled out.
