MARTIAN IN HIS SAUCER?

A farmer from Corrèze saw... and embraced a strange being who immediately took off in a fast and silent craft

Tulle, September 15 — Mr. Mazaud, a sturdy fifty-something farmer from Bugeat (Corrèze), has just had a sensational encounter. He is very firm in his statements. There is an undeniable tone of sincerity in what he says. He is by no means known as a joker or a dreamer, and the investigators did not find the slightest flaw or contradiction in his account.

The man he encountered on a deserted plateau on September 10, around 8:30 p.m., did not appear unusual in his clothing or appearance, except for the rather peculiar shape of the helmet he wore on his head. When he came face-to-face with the Corrèze farmer, he bowed his head several times in greeting, extended his hand, then embraced him. He did not otherwise respond to Mr. Mazaud’s greeting and did not utter a single word, to the point that the farmer took him for someone mentally challenged and would certainly have soon forgotten the encounter. But a few seconds after the stranger disappeared, Mr. Mazaud, who was continuing on his way, heard a faint rustling sound. He turned around, and it was at that moment that he saw a craft lifting off the ground at an angle, in the same way a plane takes off. The machine vaguely had the shape of a cigar (somewhat like a jet plane seen from the side). It flew very rapidly westward while gaining altitude. The sound was very faint. No smoke or light was visible.

Mr. Mazaud was careful not to speak of the incident in the neighborhood, fearing ridicule. Only his wife’s indiscretion allowed the gendarmes to be informed.

They went to the site, but since it had rained heavily, no trace was found on the ground.

The intelligence commissioner from Tulle interviewed Mr. Mazaud at length and went with the farmer to the location of the encounter. Like everyone else, he was struck by the seriousness of the man who had been the involuntary witness to this strange phenomenon.
