Innsbruck, September 5. -- "Flying saucers" are said to have flown over western Austria this week, according to testimonies collected in Vorarlberg and Tyrol.
"A pink disc the size of the moon, moving slowly from west to east" was observed on September 1st, between 11 a.m. and noon, by a mountain guide and his two children near the Habicht massif in the Stubai Alps, south of Innsbruck, close to the Italian border. The mountaineer stated it bore no resemblance to a weather balloon, one of which he observed the next day in roughly the same area.
Additionally, about twenty people claim to have seen, on August 31st, for over an hour in the Bludenz region (Vorarlberg), "a silver object the size of a ball" slowly flying westward over the summit of the Davenna.
Meanwhile, it has been reported from Munich that a flat, circular object with "ragged" edges was seen Friday morning above the village of Obersaasbach (Bavaria) by several people picking hops. The village schoolteacher, who first noticed the object, stated that it was moving at high speed from east to west. All witnesses unanimously declared that it stood out clearly against the clear sky and that it could not have been an optical illusion.
Furthermore, American authorities are currently conducting an investigation to verify claims made by some residents of the village of Landshut, who said they saw an aircraft flying at very high altitude release hundreds of balloons. These reportedly burst about a hundred meters above the ground, releasing "something" from their envelopes that resembled swarms of insects.
