FLYING SAUCERS

I did not see flying saucers yet. Perhaps I will never see one, for it seems that to witness such a thing requires a certain grace, a certain purity of heart and soul, a kind of faith.

Look at how these things happen: it's always good people who see them - otherwise perfectly sound of mind and body, balanced, clear-headed. They are gazing at the sky one day, one night, out in the countryside. And then, all of a sudden, there it is - the utterly strange and marvelous apparition, a vision of light, those spherical or elongated shapes, those lightning-fast and angular take-offs, those gliding movements that defy everything allowed by our science and our three-dimensional space. And then, the silence...

Take note above all of their gentleness, their benign manners, the peaceful spirit of these strange pilots: tall or short, rounded or slender, they are obviously curious about our world but, without a doubt, bear it no ill will. Sometimes they even go so far as to caress us, in our inability to understand their subtle language.

I don't know what conclusion you might draw, but as for me, my mind is made up. It seems impossible to me that so much kindness could ever come from someone of our race.

From Mars or Venus, from some other planet or extrasolar world - from wherever you like - but not from our frenzied Earth.

And it is by such signs, precisely, that one will recognize the chosen. Thrice-blessed among us are the kind-hearted: they will see flying saucers.

Léonard SAINT-MICHEL.
