Beginning or October, 1954, Mercurey, Sa˘ne-et-Loire:

Reference number for this case: Beg-Oct-54-Mercurey. Thank you for including this reference number in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

According to a 1982 catalog of the ADRUP ufology group, the newspaper Le Bien Public, of Dijon, reported on October 7, 1954, that one of their readers wrote to them to report that "these last days", in Mercurey where he lived, he had seen in broad daylight, in clear skies, two "craft" rotating - or turning - at very high speed, side by side, "like spinning tops launching violet red and yellow gleams", and seeming to head to Le Creusot.

These "craft" that he said to have been of a diameter of about 5 to 8 meters, seemed to him to be at a height of 300 to 400 meters, they had the top slightly rounded, and emitted "no noise, like that of jet airplanes or other."

THURSDAY 7 OCTOBER: FLYING TOPS IN THE SKY OF MERCUREY -

One of our readers writes to tell us the following facts which he has witnessed these last days at Mercurey where he lives. In broad daylight, he told us he had observed, by clear sky, two craft turning at very great speed side by side, like spinning tops throwing purple and red yellow gleams, and seeming to be heading towards Le Creusot. These craft appeared to be at a height of 300 to 400 m, the top slightly convex and about 5 to 8 m in diameter. No noise, like that of jet planes and others.

The source is indicated to be the newspaper Le Bien Public.
