THE CATTLE MUTILATIONS RETURN

As occurs in these cases, in which logical explanations appear not to fit, the city of Curuzu Cuatia in Corrientes and its environs are shaken by the recent appearance of a cow with clear incisions on its vital parts. This discovery does nothing but feed the certainty that we are facing another cattle mutilation event.

Personnel from SENASA (National Health and Agroalimentary Quality Service) reached the San Antonio ranch on Sunday morning. The ranch is located 5 km from Curuzu Cuatia, in the Third Section of the Department of Mercedes. The ranch's owner, cattleman Miguel Caseroto, 68, found the lifeless bovine in a pasture field late Saturday. He informed the authorities, who ascertained the animal's presence and requested the intervention of SENASA authorities, who subjected the animal to a more thorough study to reach an official explanation suitable to the circumstances.

According to police sources, the health-control agency said that the animal "was four years old, and the death had occurred 4 to 5 days previous, and there were no signs of natural incisions or violence."

They further added that the bovine was found lying on its right side. The experts noted the absence of muscles from the left maxillary, as well as the absence of an eye and ear on the same side, along with part of the tongue. They explained that the animal had no nipples and showed an enlargement of the anal region.

No sooner did this information become known that the concern among cattle ranchers was immediately spread to the cities of southern Corrientes province, which were trying to find a satisfactory explanation.
