THE OPINION OF THE SPECIALIST MICHEL VERDENET

Strange lights in the sky: the mystery remains

He saw them... It strangely resembles an episode of "The Invaders" with David Vincent. We told in in our Monday issue of the testimony of a motorist driving between Nolay and Saint-Sernin-du-Bois, who would have seen the strange lights in the sky, lights resembling "a flight of starlings" and which would have followed him throughout his travel.

Other people also observed the phenomenon. Jojo Melot, former mayor of the community of Saint-Léger-les-Paray, even photographed it (read our yesterday issue). We thus contacted the sky specialist, Michel Verdenet, of Bourbon-Lancy. "I heard talk of it, he said. But I did not personally observe these phenomena and I do not see what purely astronomical cause they could be alloted to."

For him these lights could quite simply come from luminous beams used by signs. "I recall to have run after strange lights that were reported to me, which resembled flying saucers and I realized that these lights came from a garage in Digoin. Distorted by the fog, these lights could cause a confusion." However, the photographs taken by the former mayor of Saint-Léger are far from resembling simple beams of light. "It is very difficult to make an analysis starting from the photographs because they are moving lights. The distances is difficult to estimate, it is the kind of sighting which lends to confusion. You would need an analysis of the photo." And the remainders of a comet, an asteroid or some different space object? "There was indeed a comet at the beginning of January, but the trails do not make movements of this kind."

As for the assumption of an extraterrestrial invasion, Michel Verdenet does not believe in it either. You might as wellsay that the mystery remains whole and for the moment, the luminous phenomena remains in the field of the cases not closed...
