A Norwegian trading vessel was a short way out from Blyth, Northumberland, when a large airship carrying five searchlights suddenly appeared. Hovering above the St. Olaf, it directed all its lights onto the steamer's bridge. It was within hail, Captain Egenes reported, but gave no answer to the challenge, and in the glare of the searchlights, no detail could be seen.

Suddenly, the airship swung off after another steamer a mile or so away, and directed the searchlights upon that. It afterward made off at a sharp rate towards the south.
