NICE. -- Two Air France pilots who had just landed in Nice on Monday evening, coming from Paris, informed the airfield commander that they had observed a luminous object in the sky while flying over the Var department. This object had the shape of an elongated egg. It was bright but not blinding. It left behind a streaked white trail. A faint bluish spot was also noticed. Its speed appeared to be two to three times that of a jet aircraft at maximum speed. One of the pilots added that "he was used to observing meteors, which follow a curved trajectory, change color, and slow down before generally exploding." But this is the first time both aviators have witnessed such a phenomenon. An Air France employee in Nice also reported seeing the object, which left behind a trail 20 to 25 times its own length.
