Defiance People See Strange Sight

SCORES OF OHIO and Indiana residents, including several from its vicinity, reportedly sighted an unidentified flying object early this morning.

Gerhardt Luderman, Sherwood, who is employed in plant protection at the Central Foundry plant, said that he first thought it was the moon when he sighted something in the eastern sky at 4:24 a.m.

HE SAID that he was on a routine inspection tour of the plant when the object was observed at a 40-degree angle above the eastern horizon. On second glance he realized that it was not the moon, being about twice its normal size and darker of a bluish green cast. He watched it as it moved upward and away, disappearing in a couple of minutes.

Luderman called city police about 10 minutes later and they advised that they were hearing many radio reports from Ohio and Indiana departments, where similar sightings were reported. One reported that a "ball of fire" appeared to land on the athletic field at Anderson College, Ind.

EUGENE Smith, Holgate Ave., also was among the local persons who reported seeing an unidentified flying object at same time.
