Dakar, 20. -- A mysterious craft was seen in the skies of Black Africa, above Port Gentil on June 1st by a merchant ship captain and several members of his crew. The captain, who arrived in Dakar today, stated that the object in question was seen at 2 a.m. and that it flew in a double loop before diving towards the open sea at high speed. According to the captain, it was an extremely bright and phosphorescent orange glow, moving in a substantially straight trajectory. The glow was followed with binoculars for 3 minutes. The craft made no noise. It must have been three or four meters altitude and its visible diameter was that of a planet. The ship's second in command saw the object as it came from outside the land, above Port Gentil. He could see that it had stopped since it turned to its right while returning to its initial route and this on two occasions. The commander believes that it was neither a known celestial phenomenon nor a common type of flying machine and he added that he had obtained confirmation that no aircraft had been reported above Port Gentil.
