Over the past month there have been two reported UFO sightings above Rivington and they have spooked the experts.
The Bolton UFO Society is appealing for people to report any unusual sightings.
On Wednesday at 8pm, a man saw an object in the sky above Rivington, between the Pike and the Chinese Gardens.
He was driving across Belmont and immediately contacted Phil Catterall, chair of the Horwich-based society, describing the object as two flying circles of light, one inside the other, rotating in opposite directions.
Four weeks ago a woman in Adlington reported seeing a similar sight over Winter Hill as she opened her bedroom curtains at 6.30am.
Mr Catterall said: "I have had sightings reported to me before in that area, but never like this. This is definitely different and I intend to look into it.
"The society has been going for about eight years and has had numerous sightings reported, especially in the Rivington and Winter Hill area, but most cases remain a mystery."
