Is it a weather balloon?

Sombernon (from our special correspondent). -- On the afternoon of January 1st, while walking through the fields southwest of Sombernon, Mr. Noël Perron noticed an orange-colored object resting on the ground. Upon approaching it, he found that it was a parachute attached to a sort of rubber balloon, above which was a small gondola. This assembly measured approximately five meters in height. The balloon itself was estimated to have a diameter of over one meter.

The cord hanging below the gondola, whose end appeared soiled, was devoid of any object, address, or identifying mark that might indicate the origin of the equipment. It is believed that the assembly may have struck the high-voltage power line located about 800 meters from where it was found, which likely caused the balloon to burst.
