Don't shoot at the Martians!

Lille, October 17. -- Mr. Maurice Ruant, a farmer in Sinceny, near Chauny (Aisne), narrowly escaped falling victim to the panic sparked in some people by the appearance of flying saucers or other aerial objects. The other night, while he was repairing his car in a field near his home, two shotgun blasts were fired in his direction. The pellets struck the car body, not far from his head. Mr. Maurice Ruant filed a complaint, and an investigation was immediately launched, which quickly led to the identification of the shooter—Mr. Ruant’s neighbor, Mr. Faisan.

The latter told police: "I thought, upon seeing a silhouette moving in the light of two headlights, that I was facing a Martian repairing his flying saucer. I went to get my shotgun and fired."

Despite his sincerity, Mr. Faisan will be prosecuted.
