News and observation reports, September 2003:

Some of the UFO observations and ufology news in September 2003 are listed on this page. Please note that these are not studies, but second hand observation reports, although mostly obtained from reliable and well known sources.

On Monday, September 29, 2003, at 8:30 p.m., eyewitness A.W. noticed a strange object in the night sky over Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, which she described as "bigger than Mars and bright white."

"It did not flash and was a continuous light. An aircraft approached from the southeast, and the object departed to the northeast. The light moved faster and disappeared when the aircraft was nearing it."

"After the aircraft was out of sight, two small lights suddenly appeared where the large light had disappeared. They flew in a northwesterly direction, parallel. The top one was a little in front of the one below. They flashed white simultaneously, then nothing and then red."

"An hour later, I was casually looking out the window and saw another pair of flashing red and white lights flying from the northwest to the southeast. These faded as an aircraft entered the vicinity and became brighter once the aircraft had flown by."

"Ten seconds later, they just vanished. Not 40 seconds later, two more of the same lights appeared, following the same direction as the previous two. I called to Tom to have a look. All of them made no noise at all."

Many thanks to George A. Filer and Joe Trainor for the email form report.

On Sunday, September 28, 2003, "two witnesses observed the maneuvers of an enormous luminous sphere that flew over the Punto Fijo region of the coastal state of Falcon" in Venezuela, "to the northwest of the Golfo de Venezuela."

"The event took place at 7:45 p.m. while Jose Jimenez and his father-in-law were fishing in the vicinity of Playa de Villamarina and Playa del Pico beaches."

"According to Jimenez, the object produced an extensive and 'glistening' white light that came from above. This caused him to look up to the heavens and notice the strange and luminous presence among 'hundreds of stars in the sky.'"

"The witnesses added that, after a while, after having remained stationary for a few seconds, the object became lost from view after performing zigzagging and vertical 'appearances and disappearances' in the air space over Falcon."

"It is worth noting that this is not the first time that such events have been reported in this area. Dozens of people have repeatedly reported the presence of these odd luminous objects. Likewise, "confidential" unofficial communications made by the crews of Venezuelan vessels have also reported strange objects during crossings of the Golfo de Venezuela."

Thanks to Scott Corrales and Arturo Escalante and Roger Lopez of Grupo OVNI Venezuela.

On Sunday, September 21, 2003, "a large cigar-shaped object was seen over Zwartewaterland, in Overijssel," in the Netherlands. "An amateur astronomer watched the object through his professional Oberwerk 11 X 70 binoculars on a tripod for about 20 minutes. The object, flying at a height of 7 kilometers, looked like a small letter L without the loop. The object was yellow. At the end of the sighting, the witness noticed two small star- like lights beneath the object, which went on in turns, with an interval of two seconds."

Many thanks to George A. Filer, FilersFiles.

SEAMAN, ADAMS COUNTY -- Kenny Young was contacted on the Cincinnati UFO Hotline to report a tremendously large object seen around midnight of September 13, 2003. Mandy, a 21-year old along with her Mom, her sister and one of her friends saw a huge object off Route 32. They observed a triangular-shaped formation of lights on one large object, the lights flashed in sequence and would simultaneously alternate in color from pinkish-red, blue, white to yellow. There were 4-or 5 lights on the outer edges of the triangle facing downward that flashed as a row of lights. The flashing effect was vastly different than the twinkling of a star. The colors would change in unison, all red or all yellow, etc., and would flash along the outer edge of the object in a slow sequence at first, then the flashing sequence escalated in speed after several minutes into the sighting. The UFO was not quite as big as a full moon, and it hovered above Belfast for almost an hour at an elevation less than 45 degrees above the horizon. Her mother, who is skeptical about UFOs, decided to have her report the object because it seemed to be so unusual. Both her sister and her friend are skeptical about UFOs, but could not identify the object.. Coyotes were heard howling ridiculously loud during the sighting, and also the previous evening.

On Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at 7:40 p.m., "an intense, very luminous sphere" flew over El Centro and the Avenida Nueve de Julio in Buenos Aires. "This object had a luminosity brighter than that of a planet. The incredible scene continued as the object moved its position over the Avenida La Plata and the Avenida Boedo, where hundreds of people witnessed the phenomenon."

Muchas gracias a Ricardo E. D'Angelo y Norberto y Joe Trainor, UFOroundup.

A luminous UFOs were sighted over Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at 5:50 a.m.: "mysterious pulses of light were seen for several minutes over the Pompeya district of Buenos Aires. The lights then moved slowly to the north," toward Tigre and the Rio Parana. "A witness photographed them with his SONY 360 camera."

BROOKLYN -- On September 8, 2003, at 10:35 PM, a large disc was seen moving at a moderate speed across the sky above lower Manhattan. "The body of the craft had a very dim luminescent glow and a small flashing light at the left end. The craft was flattish, but with a curvature on top, like an upside down dinner plate. It seems to be flying, near the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges. The disc was still there at 11:30 PM, near the JFK Airport. Personnel in the tower and planes should have seen it. The UFO had a flashing rear light, a white light in the top center moving in a circular motion on the crown. There is an orange-reddish color to it and there was an upward tilt at the front of the craft. It changed shape as it flew back and forth, and had an elongated disk shape to it."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filesfiles.

Webmaster note: Why would it not be a blimp?

BEACH HAVEN TERRACE - The observer was looking at the sky on September 8, 2003, at 11:30 PM, and observed a brownish/red star [sic] (Mars) in the west. The strange thing about this was that a light at times circled around the planet object, Later it moved left to right and right to left. This light was a bluish/white. The object itself appeared to be moving with the orbit of Mars.

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filersfiles.

RIVERSIDE -- "My Father-in-law saw a bright light in the sky from the freeway on September 7, 2003, at 9 PM. He kept watching it for over ten minutes as it slowly moved over a small mountain near March Air Force Base looking like a very bright light bulb. It started hovering and looked like a satellite dish in shape that had a halo around it. It didn't look like any normal plane or any other object he's seen."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filesfiles.

On Sunday, September 7, 2003, at 5:15 a.m., Simon Walthew was outdoors, watching the sunrise, when he spotted a strange brilliant object in the sky over Durban, South Africa.

"It was just before dawn, and a friend and myself were getting ready to go fishing," Simon reported, "I was outside, gazing up at the sky, which was beautiful. An object caught my eye, small, almost like a satellite. This object grew 20 to 30 times its (original) size and shone brighter than the sun, changing colour and shape."

"Within a millisecond, the size of the object reduced to a small orange speck and shot off at an incredible speed."

"During the time of its size increasing, the object was stationary. Its size grew to an estimated three times that of the brightest star you can usually see in the sky." (Sirius--J.T.)

"After speeding off in a southerly direction" over the Indian Ocean, "the object disappeared but not over the horizon, just lights out."

"It seemed as high as a commercial jet and left at an incredible speed, anything from 2,000 to 10,000 kilometers per hour. (1,200 to 6,000 miles per hour--J.T.)"

Thanks to Joe Trainor, UFOroundup (Email Form Report).

CARRABASSET VALLEY -- Three hikers decided to take the half mile hike up to North Horn to watch the sunset at the Bigelow Preserve on September 6, 2003. In the northeast a flash of light caught their eyes at 8:30 PM. Flashes got more frequent and they all saw them 10 to 15 miles out against the shadows of the next ridgeline. The random flashes were very bright alternating between blue/white and orange. At first, they thought they were explosions from military testing but this was ruled out knowing that the fire risk was too high. The lights most certainly were not planes or flares as the flashes varied in intensity. The flashes were roughly over the Appalachian Trail. The witness states, "Among the flashes we could make out a red antennae like object that was not flashing, but glowing. My two friends thought they also saw small objects in the sky being illuminated by the brighter flashes. After 15 minutes or so we were more than a little freaked out and decided to make the half-mile descent back to camp."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filersfiles.

On September 5, 2003 at the annual Goodwood Festival and Revival of old aircraft in West Sussex, south of England, Mr. Simon Anderson, 29, who likes to attend airshows was filming two aircraft in flight with his JVC Hi-8 PAL camcorder at 1:35 P.M., when he managed to capture on video a disc shaped flying object was there near the two aircraft (vintage P-40 and F-4U) floating making balancing movements and shining with the sun suggesting a metallic structure. Mr. Anderson indicates that other people have noticed the object.

Some stills from the video and additionnal information is on www.rense.com/general41/flying.htm

SLAVONSKI BROD - The witness reports on September 4, 2003, at 3:35 PM, "I saw an object that didn't look like a plane or helicopter. I never believed myself in stuff like this but I couldn't explain what I saw. It was moving too slowly for a plane and it didn't have any lights. The craft was shaped like a cigar and was gray in color. It wasn't very high but I didn't hear any sounds and there was no trail. I thought it was a Zeppelin, but I know now it wasn't. I watched for twenty seconds but when it came near a cloud, it just disappeared."

Two unidentified craft were photographed this summer. They may be fighter aircraft, but no tail or wings are evident. Thanks to Toine Trust Site Admin @ UFOPlaza x UFOPortal http://www.ufoplaza.nl/~ganzegal/pix/Porec2003.jpg

CHIPPEWA FALLS -- "It was a very clear sky on September 3, 2003, at 5:00 AM, I had just sent my daughter off to college and I stood alone in the driveway observing the stars, when I noticed a commercial jet on its way to the St. Paul/Minneapolis Airport. It was using the east to west flight corridor. An object appeared from the west that was a very bright white light moving faster, but lower than the jet. It flew directly over my head with no sound and flew northeast in less than a minute."

SEATTLE - An hour after the sighting underneath, another witness was walking his dogs in Northgate and saw two distinctly red oblong luminous objects moving northwest across the sky at a high angular velocity at 10 PM. "They were very bizarre in appearance, and maneuvered, relative to each other and disappeared behind a nearby building." The witness quickly returned to his residence and drew a picture of what he had just witnessed minutes earlier.

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filesfiles.

FEDERAL WAY - A couple was taking an evening walk on September 3, 2003, when they saw a very bright lights moving speedily past them at 9 PM. "It was a black triangle with three or possibly more bright lights. We thought it was a plane until we noticed it was moving backward it took two or three turns and then started rising and eventually moved out of sight."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filesfiles.

AQABA -- "I was driving home from Aqaba on a desert road south towards Amman on September 2, 2003, at 2:15 AM. It was so dark that you can hardly see a car at this hour. Suddenly I saw a very strong white light coming from behind in my mirror. The light was so bright; I could hardly open my eyes. It kept coming closer and closer so fast. The car shook as it passed over my car and I almost lost control as it passed. I have never seen any thing that fast in my life. I wasn't able to see the shape of the object as it disappeared so fast. I didn't hear any thing but the sound of strong wind just like the sound of a storm."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC, and George Filer, Filesfiles.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at about 12 noon, "whilst stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Marine Parade and Gold Coast Highway, Labrador," in eastern Australia, Gary Opit reported, "and looking out of my open driver's side window at the Broadwater (Pacific Ocean--J.T.) on a cloudless day, with no cars passing, my eyes were attracted to a bright light a couple of hundred metres away and about 50 metres above the water."

"It looked like the sun was reflecting off of a solid object such as a hovering aircraft, which at first I thought must be a helicopter. As I gazed at the object, which was stationary, I realised that it was identical to the (bell-shaped) 'scoutship' photographed by (ufologist) George Adamski on 13 December 1952. It was domed on top with a flanging bell-shaped base."

"I thought it was probably just an outline of the sun shining off the side of a helicopter, when it suddenly vanished."

"I expected to see the dark shape of an aircraft, such as a helicopter, hovering over the water. I watched it for a while, but nothing reappeared."

Many thanks to John Hayes and Diane Harrison of the Australian UFO Research Network for this report, and to Joe trainor, UFOroundup, for publishing it.

LAYTONSVILLE -- At 10:13 PM, on September 1, 2003, the witness heard a loud noise resembling an engine outside, so she looked out her window and saw something like a shooting star, but it was falling UP very fast! A light on the object started flashing VERY brightly and then a HUGE, EXTREMELY BRIGHT searchlight turned on. She states, "I thought they were looking for something as I moved around in my bed to try to get a better view, then the searchlight shined REALLY bright on my window, and I could hardly see. So I closed my eyes for a second, then it was gone! I was still looking out my window when I saw a man's reflection in it. I turned around and nobody was there."

Thanks to CookieDough1190@netscape.net and George Filer, FilersFiles.

The witness writes about his observation at Annecy Le Vieux, 09:15 P.M.:

"Apparition of 2 luminous objects (yellow) in the atmosphere at very high speed (similar to shooting stars), then followed by three identical other. The 5 objects then accomplished a flight in formation at low speed (equivalent to that of a plane in the sky but appearing to be much higher) two of the objects carried out furtive movements of rotations during this flight in formation around the procession. Then the 5 objects made a very quick half-turn and took again a flight in formation in another direction (this half-turn was very impressive by its speed). Then one of the objects being located at the head of the formation accelerated at an incredible speed then slowed down (its color went from orange to yellow during the acceleration phase then yellow to orange during deceleration). The fourother objects then joined it to continue a flight in formation. These objects did not make any noise, were of orange color during the flights in formation and of yellow color at the time of their arrival and their acceleration. The objects continued their flight in foramation in direction in the direction of the Big Dipper I could not follow them from my place of observation. If you have other similar testimonys at this date thank you to send them to me."
