ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Didenheim, in May 2012:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2012-05-29-DIDENHEIM-1

Summary:

On November 7, 2013, "Wallas Jackson" of Didenheim published on Youtube what he said to be a video of a UFO above the Moon.

Ensuring that his video is "original", he said it shows a giant UFO with "projections" of objects, seen from Didenheim with the naked eye above the Moon and videotaped with a camcorder, on May 29, 2012, at 09:26 p.m.

He thought that the UFO was "simply enormous", at least the size of the Moon. It would thus hve stayed close to the Moon so it would not "change the attraction that our Moon exerts on our good old Earth," which would be "nice from them" and say a lot about "our size in the universe."

ATTENTION !!!! (U F O above the Moon May 2012)

Wallas Jackson

Added on Nov. 7, 2013

ATTENTION !!!! this video is original,,,,May 2012 , 10:00 p.m. in Didenheim (UFO visible with the naked eye above the Moon with projections of objects,,,,,video taken with a CAMESCOPE,,,,the proportions of the Object are absolutely gigantic,,,at leas the size or our Moon.... which would explain why it styed next to the Moon ,,,,,(so as to not modify the attraction our Moon exerts on our good old Earth),,,Nice from them ;) but it says a lot about our size in the universe.

Discussion:

Map.

My astronomy software shows me that there was no star or planet next to the Moon that night at the same time or even approximate time. The Moon was at 218°42' (south) with an elevation of 33°2'. It was in waxing phase with 61.1% of the surface illuminated. This does match what we see on the video.

Of course, a video posted on Youtube offers no credibility guarantee; anyone can make a fake video nowadays.

From the beginning, we have a shot of the moon and nothing special to see.

At 7 seconds at the beginning of a new shot, there is a fixed spot above the moon. This spot seems to appear quickly but gradually when the zoom is slightly increased. The rate of "blur" varies in the same manner as that of the moon when it changes because of the autofocus changes.

Scan.

At 17 seconds, there seems to be a very brief interruption of the shooting, perhaps a simple camera shake. The previous spot is no longer visible, another spot, which will be the brightest, becomes visible on the right of the moon, with other less distinct spots. This argues for a cut of the video rather than a camera shake.

At 28 seconds, these spots remain fixed, but another small spot descends in a straight line diagonally to the left of the sreen and from the left side of the moon. This could be a satellite or an airplane; but it is not the main puzzle for the cameraman, since it is not the main subject of his video enhancements.

Just before arriving at the image of the moving point, the camera had done a slight movement off center, as if the cameraman had seen it. This mobile spot seems to disappear while movng at the 30th second. And the sequence ends at the 31st second, the remainder being the slow motion sequences and still images.

A search on "Wallas Jackson" did not solve the case: four videos were posted on YouTube under this pseudonym, but none is a "UFO video" and none betrays a fraud.

At most, there is a set of mid-metaphysical mid-artistic photos - on the "is the universe a hologram" theme, by the same "Wallas Jackson", published June 26, 2013, at www. youtube.com/watch?v=NIKWGDZZISQ

The remark by "Wallas Jackson" on the size of the UFO as being at least as large as the Moon does not hold: there is nothing to show that it was as far away or closer or further away than the moon.

I personally increased the brightness and contrast to the "group of objects" or "giant UFO":

Scan.

This gave me the impression of a set of "dirty traces", perhaps dirt traces on the lens of the camera. With the same operation on a later frame in the same sequence, I get:

Scan.

There seems to be no movement for these "dirt traces". The additional spot on the left is the mobile spot that might have been a satellite.

Among the slow motion edits, there are two more spots moving in straight lines; making it a bit much for the "satellites" thesis.

In the end, I am rather intrigued... I wished there was a report about what was visually observed. I think that the case deserved an investigation.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, but unknown credibility.
