Summary:

In the 7th issue of the ufology bulletin Les Chroniques de la CLEU, of the "Commission Luxembourgeoise d'Etudes Ufologiques", of December 1978, we find the transcription of an article by the Luxembourg press reporting that a merchant from Saint-Avold "reportedly saw at 9.00 a.m. on the road between Altrippe and Maxville in a field a craft which had the shape of a bell. This object rose at an incredible speed and disappeared in the direction of Nancy. According to the witness - this phenomenon was also observed by a friend who accompanied him, as well as by a peasant - this "bell" had a diameter of 4 m and a height of more than 2 m. moreover, one could distinguish around this mysterious object, which was light brown below and blue above, rays of white color."

More flying saucers observed over Lorraine. The chronicle of the flying saucers is enriched by a new testimony.

From St Avold we learn that a shopkeeper from this town reportedly saw at 9.00 a.m. on the road between Altrippe and Maxville in a field a craft which had the shape of a bell. This object rose at an incredible speed and disappeared in the direction of Nancy. According to the witness - this phenomenon was also observed by a friend who accompanied him, as well as by a peasant - this "bell" had a diameter of 4 m and a height of more than 2 m. In addition, one could distinguish around this mysterious object, which was light brown below and blue above, rays of white color.

The source of several such articles is noted in undiscrimated manner as "Tageblatt + Luxemburger Wort - Articles translated by Monique Sassel (CLEU)".

Explanations:

Map.

The distance between the exit of Altrippe and the entrance of Magstadt ("Maxville") is about 2 km. Nancy is in the southwest.

Carte.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there was no investigation into this case, which seems of high strangeness to me, with an object for which I see no obvious trivial explanation.

If one insists for the "least bad" ordinary explanation, it would be a meteor.
