Mistaken for a Martian,
he receives a correction...

Definitely, going out at night will be just as dangerous as it was during the Gestapo times.

In this autumn of 1954, when the flying saucers constantly crisscross our skies, and as Martians, Saturnians, Venusians, Uranians and other inhabitants of distant planets make frequent forays into our countryside, the nocturnal walker must be wary.

If he is small, he's a Martian; an electric lamp becomes the cyclopean eye of a native of Saturn. If the evening visitor is tall and threadlike, he comes straight down from Venus.

The worst part is that this hysteria of the flying saucer will end up causing bloody dramas.

Its latest victim is a farmer from Tain-L'Hermitage, in the Drôme, Mr. Neyret.

In the dark, his neighbor, a winegrower, had seen his silhouette which seemed "extraordinary" to him. "He's a Martian," he said to himself. He armed himself with a stick and struck redoubled blows at poor Mr. Neyret who has an unstuck ear and found himself forced to consult a doctor.
