Summary:

The regional newspaper La Voix du Nord reported in the local edition of Béthune of October 31, 1954, that someone came to tell them that "Friday", therefore on October 29, 1954, around 7:30 p.m., several residents of rue des Alpes were intrigued by the passage, in the sky, of a luminous object of orange hue moving rapidly from the direction of the siège 5 towards Barlin.

The person who had told that to the newspaper added that "it was the size of an egg", and "told us all the same that it was not a saucer."

It is said that it was not the light of an airplane because no noise was heard, nor a meteor, because the witnesses were able to follow the object for about ten seconds.

IT WAS NOT A SAUCER

Friday, around 7:30 p.m., several residents of the rue des Alpes were intrigued by the passage, in the sky, of a luminous object. It was going at a rapid pace from the direction of the siège 5 towards Barlin. It was not the light of an airplane; no noise was heard at that time. Nor a meteor, because the witnesses were able to follow the object (of orange hue) for about ten seconds.

One came to tell us all this.

And our volunteer correspondent added that "it was the size of an egg."

He told us all the same that it was not a saucer.

What was it?

Will we finally see a real one one day!

Explanations:

Map.

The Béthune newspaper did not specify the town, but the only rue des Alpes I could find near Béthune goes through Bruay-la-Bussières.

The argument that it was not a meteor does not hold since meteors can be observed for a little over a minute or even two sometimes.

The argument that it wasn't an airplane holds up a little better, not because of the lack of noise, but because of the orange hue.

The strangeness of the sighting is weak, the information really insufficient, but it is quite possible that it was a meteor.
