Summary:

An article in the regional newspaper Le Provençal for November 18, 1954 on page 9, reported via their Press correspondent that a "mysterious object" was seen on November 14, in the sky of Apt.

Around 08:30 p.m. that day, trustworthy people living in the district of the Plan saw in the sky, an enormous ball of fire, leaving behind itself a long luminous trail similar to a tail.

During its "progression in space", during one minute approximately, the "craft" changed color, passing from the white to the orange and vice versa.

After having undergone a horizontal trajectory, the ball went up vertically and disappeared to the eyes of the observers.

Reference 7

Several people observe in the skies a huge ball of fire that leaves behind a long, tail-like trail of light. This craft changes color in its race; it goes from white to orange, and vice versa. It follows a horizontal trajectory before climbing vertically to disappear from the sight of observers. The sighting lasted about a minute.

"Référence 7" refers to "Le Provençal".

[Ref. uda1:] "UFODNA" WEBSITE:

The website indicates that on 15 November 1954 at 20:30 in Apt, France, "An unidentified object was sighted, but with appearance and behavior that most likely would have a conventional explanation. One object was observed for over one minute."

The source is indicated as "Vallee, Jacques, Computerized Catalog (N = 3073)".

Explanations:

Map.

Probable meteor.

The whole description is that of a mateor, except for the statement that it "went up vertically" at the end. But this is only a Press article, and the journaliste might have misunderstood something like "went down vertically."
