The Belgium flap:

On November 29, 1989:

At 04:55 p.m. near Lanklaar (Dilsen Limburg), Mr. K.:

In their second book on the Belgium flap, the SOBEPS indicated that on November 29, 1989, when it was 4:55 p.m., 45 km north of the previous observation (in the direction taken by the UFO of Beyne-Heusay) M. K. was traveling at 30 km / h near the town of Lanklaar (Dilsen Limburg), when his attention was attracted by a dark object seemingly motionless, and covered a dozen of lights.

This object looked like a "diamond", the dots of light appeared arranged in the greatest disorder. The structure was located 1500 meters from the witness who could observe it for only about twenty seconds, which prevented the identification of other details.

The author indicates that the case was investigated by the NUFOC during the quarter that followed.

A sketch, probably made by hand by the witness, is published. Using straight lines for the hand-drawn lines, using the color of the sky at this time and this place, with white spots where the witness indicated the randomly-placed lights, I get:

There is a summary for this observation, published on the web by the Belgian ufologist Godelieve Van Overmeire in her catalog circa 1999, now gone, but much copied by UFO websites and forums. This summary is as follows:

1989, November 29

BELGIUM, Lanklaar (prov. Limbourg)

M [or Mr.] K. was driving at approximately 30 km.p.h to Lanklaar when his attention was attracted by a dark object seemingly motionless, covered a dozen of lights. This object looked like a diamond and the dots of light arranged in the greatest disorder. Estimated altitude 1500 m. Duration of observation, about 20 seconds. (Inforespace #84, p. 14, 15)

Luminosity of the sky during this sighting:

04:40 p.m. Sunset is at 16:37.
04:50 p.m.
05:00 p.m.

Localization:

Above: Lanklaar is far in the North, about 70 km away, from the Verviers - Eupen area.

Notes:

The relatively important distance, the short duration, of course leaves room for various possible explanations - airplane, helicopters, alien spaceship...

However, with this sighting report we have one more person puzzled by something in the sky that day, not very far from the Verviers - Eupen region.
