October 16, 1954, Compiègne, Oise:

Reference number for this case: 16-Oct-54-Compiègne. Thank you for including this reference number in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In their 1979 book "La Grande Peur Martienne" ("The Great Martian Scare"), the two "skeptical" ufologists Gérard Barthel and Jacques Brucker indicated that in Compiègne, on October 16, 1954, at 09:25 p.m., there was an obvious description of a meteor, with a duration of 1.5 seconds, whose witness could not be found when they wanted to investigate.

They gave neither the name of the witness they sought, nor a source, nor any other information.

Reports:

[Ref. bbr1:] GERARD BARTHEL ET JACQUES BRUCKER:

The authors say that in Compiègne on October 16, 1954 at 21:25 there was an obvious description of a fireball, with a 1.5 seconds duration, whose witness was untraceable when they wanted to investigate.

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

The author says that Barthel and Brucker categorically explained on this case without giving "the least indication about what they undertook to be final" in their verdict.
