Hi, Can you help me, I have recently bought a new digital camera and thought I would take a photo of the moon to see how it would come out. In the photo (attached) are three circular blemishes, two to the left and one to the right. Are these merely stars? I could not see any stars at the time with my eyes, I would be very interested to see what you think.

Kind Regards, [Firstname].

Note: to reduce download time and server space, this is not the original 2.8 MB file but a recompressed and renamed 1MB file, the original size is preserved. The original is however available on ufologists' email request from my archive.

Hi [Firstname],

Thanks for your email. They are not stars, but light diffraction on tiny stuff such as insects, pollen, dustspecs or most often water droplets in the air close to the lens.

Some ufologists call those "Orbs" and still think they are paranormal or alien, but they are not. See:

http://ufologie.net/htm/orbs.htm

Hope this helped.

Best regards

Hi Patrick, thanks for answering my question so quickly, and for the link that explains everything about orbs, I would not have known otherwise.

Great website!
