US author and sensationalist ufologist Gray Barker apparently reported in 1982 that on May 6, 1981 at an hour not specified, at a pond in Keston, U-K., two schoolgirls saw a figure wearing a cloak, a dark pointed hat and a circles of lights at its lower half, and this is all there seems to be about it.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Keston Ponds, Kent, England, on May 6, 1981, at an unknown time, two young girls reported seeing a strange humanoid that glided slowly above the water on a nearby lagoon. The figure was wearing a long dark pointed hat and was covered by a dark cloak. Around its lower half was a circle of small lights. No other information.

Rosales indicates that the source is Gray Barker, UFO Annual 1981.

Headlined "An entity from the '80s", a short paragraph indicates that on May 6, 1981, in Keston, between Bromley and Biggin Hill, there are three "watery abodes," one natural, two man-made, which attract many anglers each year.

On this particular day, two schoolgirls were terrified by a cloaked figure wearing a tall, dark hat and a glowing belt, which glided around them, and "little else has been reported on the spook."

Points to consider:

US writer Gray Barker was the first to popularize stories of "Men In Black" as an element of ufology, and defended that flying Saucers come from inside the Earth, not other planets. He was not quite ready to check into stories he published. This one has no known primary source and was certainly not investigated by Barker as it allegedly took place on another continent.

With only two sources found so far, both giving versions with differences about the "belt" and the "cloak", short, without sources and noting that nothing else is known or "little else" is known, I hardly see grounds for thinking that there was real close encounter of the third kind there, but rather some urban legend, or some confusion by young girls, promoted in story, perhaps with some will-'o-the-wisp occurence as stimulus.
