Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In a listing of UFO crashes, Philip Mantle and Anton Anfalov indicate that in 1978 in Western Kazahstan, a UFO similar in shape to a fighter aircraft was allegedly shot down by the Soviet military. The UFO and its pilots were transported to Zhitkur.

They also indicate that in 1978, at an unknown location, a landed cylinder-shaped UFO some 35 meters long was allegedly seized by the Soviet military and transported to Zhitkur.

Zitkhur is - allegedly - in Volgogradskaya Oblast, Russia and its geographical coordinates are 48° 57' 20" North, 46° 15' 55" East. Numerous websites repeat a claim that there is an underground military base there and that the nearby village was destroyed, but no serious historical information seems to fit this.

Numerous dubious claims of UFO crashes in the USSR circulate on the web and often, it is claimed that the wrecked UFO was transported to Zitkhur.

The satellite view of the area below does suggest there were some buildings or a village there:
