Apparently, in 1982 and 1984, the French ufology magazine LDLN - or much later Fortean researcher Chris Aubeck - reported that in Torrebruna, Chieti, Italy, on December 14, 1978, at midnight, a man traveling in his car saw an object that emitted lights hovering just above the roadway.
The man allegedly turned on his headlights and the craft descended and landed on the road ahead of him. The car's radio stops working.
The man then approached the craft, on which a door opened. The man enters the craft, finds himself in a circular room completely illuminated and filled with what appeared to be electronic equipment. He did not see any occupants.
After a few minutes, the man exits the craft and sees it depart at high speed.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Torrebruna, Chieti, Italy, on December 14, 1978, at midnight, "a man traveling in his car saw an object that emitted lights hovering just above the roadway. The witness turns on his headlights and the object descends and lands on the road ahead of him. The car's radio stops working. The witness then approaches the object and a door opens up. The witness then enters the object and finds himself in a circular room completely illuminated and fill with what appeared to be electronic equipment. He did not see any occupants. After a few minutes the witness exits the object and sees it depart at high speed. (Still technically a type G event)."
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "Chris Aubeck, Return to Magonia."

Encounters with Aliens on this DayDecember 15 [... Other cases ...] There were a series of close encounter UFO incidents in Italy on this date in 1978. In Torrebruna, Italy a man driving his car shortly after midnight saw a lighted UFO hovering just above the roadway. He blinked his headlights and the object descended and landed on the road ahead of him. The car's radio then stopped working. He got out of his car and approached the object and a door opened up. He then entered and found himself in a circular brightly illuminated room crammed full of instrument panels. He did not see any occupants. After a few minutes the witness left the object and saw it depart at high speed. (Sources: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1978, citing Chris Aubeck, Return to Magonia; Lumieres dans la Nuit, numbers 214 and 240). [... Other cases ...] |

The website indicates that on 15 December 1978 at 00:20 in Torrebruna, Italy, "Disc lands on road, door opens. Witness goes inside, sees craft full of instrument panels."
And: "An object was sighted that had an appearance and performance beyond the capability of known earthly aircraft. One disc was observed by one witness on a road for over three minutes."
The sources are indicated as "Lumieres dans la Nuit, Lumieres dans la Nuit" and "Hatch, Larry, *U* computer database, Author, Redwood City, 2002".

It seems rather curious to me that this case does not seem to be mentioned in any Italian source or listing I have. Was it born in the French magazine LDLN? Is this an investigated case, or just some late anonymous testimony letter published by this magazine?
Let us also note the apparent inconsistency of the affair: a craft lands, nobody is inside, it takes off without anybody inside, whereas it is full of intrument panels, which normally implies that the presence of pilots would be necessary. Also, is it likely that someone would just enter such a craft?
In short, all this does not scream credibility, and obviously, no available investigation report comes to contradict the reasonable doubts that can be formulated.
Finally, this is not stricto sensu a CE3, but a CE1, since no occupant is seen.
