SUMMER 1976, AUGUST 1978, MEIGLE, PERTHSHIRE, U-K., KAREN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

From a ufology catalogue, it appears that Ron Haliday, in his 1998 book "UFO Scotland: The Secret History of Scotland's UFO Phenomenon", reported on alleged abductions events involving a girl with the pseudonym "Karen", occurring in Meigle, Scotland, U.K.

In the summer of 1976, at 09:45 a.m., while her brothers and sisters went out on a picnic or fruit picking, 10 year-old "Karen" had stayed behind in a wood. During the walk "to the wood", she saw a "bright rainbow-colored light in the sky".

Having entered the wood, she came to a clearing well known to her. This area was strangely silent, noises of birds or other animal noises had stopped; she heard only dry leaves crunching beneath her feet.

She suddenly saw ahead of her a group of four "little figures", and she found herself unable to move. The figures came to her. She said they had blue eyes and blue skin, they were smaller than her, probably not even reaching her shoulder.

Then she felt hands touching her, cold and slimy. An enormous light appeared from nowhere and the next thing she experienced was to be lying on a big circular table of hard metallic appearance, though it felt soft around her almost as if it had been molded to the contours of her body. The place was dark, but she remembered a light shining from somewhere.

Entities surrounded her, reassuring her everything was all right. Not a word, though, was spoken. These beings "looked human", but she caught sight of other taller entities whose bodies were incredibly thin, like stick insects. She thought the smaller entities she first encountered may have been working for these taller "aliens."

Drops were put into her eyes; which paralyzed them for a while. She recalled a "contraption like a machine" covering her from head to toe and going into her mouth. It may have examined her nostrils as well.

Eventually, Karen was returned to the spot where the encounter had started. Dazed and shaken, she headed home, and when she walked in, she was shocked to find out that over eight hours had passed since she had gone on the picnic. Her frantic parents had been on the point of calling the police.

One morning in August 1978, also in Meigle, "Karen", now 12, had a "vivid dream" in which she went back to the scene of the summer 1976 incident and found the small figures waiting for her. It seemed like the dream somehow propelled her back there.

She returned to the picnic site and was once again "taken up"" by the strange entities. She could feel their little hands touching her legs, lifting her as if she was being guided somewhere. She remembers lying on a table and experiencing an agonizing pain centered on her forehead.

Back home, she suffered a headache and a high fever and was violently sick during the night. A doctor visited and she remembers him saying that "her glands were inflamed".

While her brothers and sisters went out fruit picking, 10-year old Karen stayed behind in a wood. During the walk to the wood she watched a bright rainbow-colored light in the sky, although any connection with what was shortly to take place is unproven. Having entered the wood, Karen walked down familiar until she came to a clearing well known to her. The area was strangely silent. All bird and animal noises had stopped. The only sound that echoed through the wood came from the dry leaves crunching beneath her feet. Suddenly, she saw ahead of her a group of little figures, four in all, and she, confronted by this strange group, was unable to move. She was, “frozen to the spot.” The entities started to come towards her and as they did so she could see that not only their eyes, but also more remarkably, their skin was colored blue. They were small, smaller even than 10-year old Karen, probably not even reaching her shoulder. And then she felt hands touching her, cold and slimy. An enormous light appeared from nowhere and the next thing that Karen can picture is lying on a big circular table, which had the appearance of hard metal, but felt soft around her, almost as if it had been molded to the contours of her body. Entities surrounded her, reassuring her everything was all right. Not a word, though, was spoken. Abduction of ten-year-old girl - In 1976, a ten-year-old girl known as ‘Karen’ from the village of Meigle claims she was abducted by aliens in woods near her home. She says she saw some strange blue creatures before she was lifted up into a spacecraft and examined. Karen eventually returned home hours later.

Points to consider:

Some ufologists say that there are thousands of thoroughly investigated and well-documented "abduction" cases and that it proves that aliens do abduct people.

Unfortunately, in this case at least, crucial information is missing from the sources available to me.

The circumstances of the report are unknown. Is this a story told in some anonymous letter? Is so, the credibility is null. Did anyone talk to "Karen" or not? Were the parents interviewed or not? Is this a totally not investigated case, or a fully investigated case?

Ignorant of the answers for now, I guess very different explanations are possible. "Karen" was maybe really abducted twice by aliens. But maybe the story is quite different. Maybe an adult woman read a lot about abductions, and vaguely remembered a nightmarish dream when she was 12 and violently ill, and it became some abduction scenario thanks to readings or ufologist intervention, using the invalid method of hypnotic regression for example.

Maybe the 1976 abduction is only the content of the 1978 "vivid dream" which was maybe just that, a vivid dream, impressive to a young girl. Maybe there really was a 1976 abduction, a 1978 vivid dream and a 1978 second abduction. It seems to me impossible to assess which one is correct; the case is certainly not "well-documented" in the source at hand.

As it stands, the case only hints that not all "alien abduction" cases are really investigated and well-documented.
