British Ufologists Carl Nagaitis and Phillip Mantle reportedly said in their 1994 book that in Middlesbrough, England, on June 1978, in the afternoon, Mike Burley had been playing rugby ball when he was struck on the head by the heavy leather ball.
Feeling somewhat groggy, he was led to a nearby field to recover. Left alone, he suddenly seemed to black out, he saw a bright flash and passed out.
"Later", he remembered that he had been lying on his back and a figure wearing a brown monk's cowl stood next to him. He could also see three other figures standing by his feet. The beings then seemed to be cutting and scraping the witness who felt no pain; one of the figures appeared to be handling some type of implements.
He also saw flashing colored lights and four rows of lights on what appeared to be a console. A bright light shone directly on his face, and moments later he found himself lying face down on the field surrounded by his playmates that had been looking for him for a while.

It is very, vers difficult to me not to think that the hit on the head was a starter for the whole story!
Certainly it looks like when the encounter ended, the boy was still in the field. But the hit on the head may have cause a trauma resulting in confused memory of the chronological order of the whole story. This is nothing impossible!
What I suspect, is that the experience of alleged alien encounter is in fact a memory of a hypnagogic hallucination who perhaps took place at the time of a srgery operation in a hospital following the accident - or some earlier surgery operation memories.
Why was it not checked whether hospitalization took place, whether doctors had knowledge of an amnesia or trauma followinf the young man's hit on the head!
"Figures" who handle inmplements. These are used on him, to cut and scrape, but he feels no pain. A console with rows of lights, and a light shone directly at his face... Is this not enough to suggest a surgical operation under anaesthesia in a hospital? Where is the UFO? Where are the "aliens"?
Subjected to what the "figures" do to him, how is it that the witness did not flee, or scream for help? That is extremely well explained if this was surgery at the hospital, uneder anaesthety.
Why are the "figures" not really described? Men? Women? Aliens? A male surgeon with a anesthestist and two female helps? Where did they cut and scrape him?

Although hypnagogic experiences are now quite understood in the medical literature on non-pathological sleep disorders and sleep phenomena, although there are knowledgeable ufologists who understand this phenomenon, many other ufologists are still unable to identify such causes when they apply and still believe such experiences are alien encounters or alien abductions.

I am not entitled to affirm that this explanation is the true explanation, but it seems that nothing was done to refute it, worse, it seems that one did not even think about such a possibility.
