AUGUST 26, 1967, MAIQUETIA, CARACAS, VENEZUELA, ESTEBAN D. COVA:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

A summary in a ufology book indicates that on August 26, 1967, Esteban D. Cova G., a private first class soldier in the Venezuelan Marines, was on duty at the Venezuelan Air Post Airlines at Maiquetia Airport, one of Caracas' airfields.

At 02:00 a.m., his shift was over, and he was relieved by another guard. He went to take a shower before going to his quarters. When he came out of the shower room into the night, he was confronted by an ugly, three-foot-tall man who had a huge head and bulging eyes. The small man was covered by some sort of "hairy stuff, or wiry metal."

It was making a "deep whistling sound," which Cova associated with a tickling or prickling sensation in his body. Then, in perfect Spanish, the little man said: "Won't you come with me? We need one human being."

Cova fainted, and when he regained consciousness the little creature was gone.

Cova went to report to the commander of his company. The story got to the press, and Cova immediately and passionately insisted that it was all true, adding that liars are severely punished in the Marines.

The commandant of his company told reporters that as far as he was able to discern, the whole story was true, and he had no explanation for it. There was no further word about the matter in the press. Nothing more seems to be known.

[Ref. lo1:] CORAL ET JIM LORENZEN:

The authors indicate that on August 26, 1967, Esteban D. Cova G., a private first class soldier in the Venezuelan Marines, was on duty at the Venezuelan Airpostal Airlines at Maiquetia Airport.

At 02:00 a.m., his shift was over, and he was relieved by another guard. He went to take a shower before going to his quarters.

[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Vallée indicates that on August 26, 1967 at 02:00 a.m., in Maiquetia Airport, Venezuela, Esteban D. Cova, a private in the Marines, was relieved of duty at the airport and returned to his quarters. Then he met an ugly dwarf, 1 meter tall, with a huge head, bulgy eyes, and a body covered with "hairy stuff or wiry metal." It made a deep whistling sound, and Cova felt a prickling sensation in his body. In perfect Spanish the creature said: "Won't you come with me? We need one human being." Cova fainted. Vallée indicates that his source is "Lor. III 79."

[Ref. jb1:] JEROME BEAU:

Jerome Beau indicates that on August 26, 1967 at 2 o'clock, at the airport of Maiquetia, Esteban D. Cova, a soldier in the Marines, was relieved of his duty and went back to his dwellings, and then met a horrible dwarf, 1 meter tall with an enormous head, globulous eyes, and "a body covered of a hairy stuff or streaked metal." The dwarf made a deep sound of whistle, and the witness felt ticklings in his body. The dwarf said in perfect Spanish, "wouldn't you like to come with me? We need a human being," and the witness fainted. The indicated source is "Lor. III 79 < Vallée 1969".

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates that at the Maquetia Airport, in Venezuela, on August 26, 1967, at 02:00 a.m., the Marine Private Esteban Cova was just leaving the airport hangar when he was accosted by a small being about 3-feet tall and covered with a sort of wiry hair. This little man had a very large head, bulging eyes, and made a deep whistling sound that gave the witness a prickling sensation throughout his body.

He then spoke, in Spanish, asking Cova, "Won't you come with us? We need one more." Cova fainted.

Rosales indicates that the source is the APRO Bulletin for September-October 1967.

Points to consider:

Basically, it seems that this was a newspaper's story, and no ufological investigation seems to have been conducted. It occurred in the day of several important UFO sightings from airplanes and the ground at Maiquetia, it is not impossible that someone inspired by the UFO information had played some prank at the soldier's expense.
