1965 AND BEGINNING OCTOBER 1973, GALVESTON, INDIANA, USA, GENE FLOYD, NELLIE FLOYD, JEFF MARTIN OR JIM MAYS:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Ufologist Don Worley reportedly indicated that near Galveston, Indiana, in the beginning of October 1973 in the early evening, "Jeff Martin", or "Jim Mays", a probable pseudonym, was fishing at a lake with two companions. His friends had gone off to another part of the lake, when Jeff Martin heard something behind him. He turned and saw, about 20 feet away, an "apelike figure watching". He was apparently not certain that it was apelike because it was dusk and visibility was poor.

Frightened, he called to the being, which did not respond. He felt less frightened and was almost sorry when the creature slipped away.

A few minutes later, something touched his shoulder. Martin, who was sitting, looked around and saw a sandy-colored anthropoid creature. It ran away with amazing swiftness, in running leaps, "like a man on a rope being pulled too fast by a car", Jeff Martin running after it.

As it crossed the road, Jeff Martin heard its feet slapping on the blacktop. The creature looked back one last time, leaped over a ditch, and disappeared into the woods.

Shortly afterwards, a glowing bronze object shot out of the trees and into the sky, fading away so quickly that the whole series of events seemed nearly instantaneous.

The following evening, Martin, his fiancé Nellie Floyd, Gene Floyd, and two friends drove to the spot, and saw "a white, glowing star-like light" that followed them and disappeared near a bridge not far from where Martin had seen the creature.

When they got to that spot, the creature was waiting for them, standing in tall weeds. It was about 8 or 9 feet tall was. The witnesses turned their flashlight on it and noticed a very curious detail: the beams seemed somehow "weaker" on the creature, which stood motionless, almost as if in a trance, giving off a musty odor. Oddly, its presence did not seem to disturb the crickets, frogs, or other wildlife.

They witnesses threw some rocks at it, but the creature seemed to ignore them. When they had to move their vehicle due to incoming traffic, the creature disappeared.

Besides, ufologist Jerome Clark and cryptozoologist Loren Coleman indicated that in Galveston, Indiana, USA, in 1965, late at night, Gene Floyd followed "a peculiar impulse" that led him outside, where he saw an orange glow in the sky. An "unspoken command" told him to shine his flashlight up at it, and when he did, flashing the lights three times, the glow blinked three times in reply. Later that night, Gene Floyd had a vivid "dream" in which he stood aboard a UFO in telepathic conversation with a humanoid figure with a large bald head. The authors say that since then, he seemed to have acquired "a noticeable degree of psychic ability."

The authors list that in early October 1973, near Galveston, Jeff Martin or Jim Mays - one name being probably a pseudonym, as the initials are the same - saw Bigfoot on two occasions, and also lights or UFOs in the same area.

The authors indicate that the sources are Clark and Coleman, "Creatures of the Outer Edge" pp 82-83; Green, "Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us", pp 206-208, including a verbatim report by Don Worley.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Galveston, Indiana, in 1965, late at night, following a peculiar impulse that led him outside, Gene Floyd saw an orange glow in the sky. An "unspoken command" told him to shine his flashlight up at it, and when he did, flashing the lights three times, the glow blinked three times in reply. Later that night Floyd had a vivid "dream" in which he stood aboard a UFO conversing mentally with a humanoid figure with a large baldhead. Since then he seemed to have acquired a noticeable degree of psychic ability.

Albert Rosales indicates as source Jerome Clark, Loren Coleman, "Creatures of the Goblin World".

Points to consider:

My problem when considering the various ufological sources on this affair is that it is apparent that one of the protagonists could be at the origin of what could actually be only a series of allegations or stories, not necessarily veracious, not just of one experience but a series of claimed experiences during years.

Gene Floyd, whom we are told that after having communicated by telepathy with a humanoid on board a UFO 1965 "seemed to have acquired a noticeable degree of psychic ability" indeed seems to have a possibly central role in these stories. Was there any attempt whatsoever to check what the reality of the claimed "psychic ability"? It does not appear obvious.
