NOVEMBER 9, 1965, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA, STUART WHITMAN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Ufology sources repeat a story that apparently comes from a Hollywood chronicler, to whom actor Stuart Whitman allegedly told what follows, as having occurred on November 9, 1965 during the Great Northeastern Blackout, Whitman being stuck alone in a 12th floor room of a Manhattan hotel, New York City, awaked just before sunset by a whistling noise from outside of room of hotel. Upon that, he supposedly saw two UFOs, and he explained:

"One of them was orange and the other was blue. They gave off a strange luminescent light, so I couldn'0t see if there were portholes or who was in them."

"Then I heard then speaking to me as if they were on a loudspeaker. They spoke to me in English. It may not have been audible to anyone else: I was probably tuned to the right wavelength. They said they wanted to talk to me because I appeared to have no malice or hate in my soul. They said they were fearful of Earth because Earthlings were messing around with unknown quantities and might disrupt the balance of the universe on their planet."

"They said the blackout was just a little demonstration of their power, and that they could do a lot more with almost no effort. It served as a warning. They said they could stop our whole planet from functioning. They asked me to do what I could to fight malice, prejudice and hate on Earth, and then they took off. I felt elated. I wasn't even shocked. I was standing by the window and awake the entire time. I don't know why they picked ma as a contact. But I'll swear off a Bible that I saw them out there and that they talked to me..."

Narratives:

[Ref. gf1:] GEORGE D. FAWCETT:

The author mentions that in or around 1966, Stuart Whitman revealed his UFO experience before nationwide audiences.

[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:

Jacques Vallée indicates in his catalogue of "UFO landings" that on November 9, 1965, at dawn, in New York City, New York, during the great power blackout, actor Stuart Whitman was startled to hear a whistling sound outside his 12th floor window and to observe two hovering objects, one orange and the other blue giving off a luminescent light. He then heard an English message indicating that the black-out was a "demonstration."

Vallée indicates that the source is "FSR 66, 6".

[Ref. bh1:] ROBERT E. BARTHOLOMEW AND GEORGE S. HOWARD:

The authors indicate that on November 9, 1965, in New York City, at night, trapped in his room on the twelfth floor of a hotel during the famous 1965 power blackout, actor Stuart Whitman heard a "whippoorwill" whistling sound outside the window where two luminous discs, one blue, one orange, hovered. A voice told Whitman, "They were fearful of Earth because Earthlings were messing around with unknown quantities and might disrupt the balance of the universe and their planet. ...The blackout was just a little demonstration of their power, and they could do a lot more with almost no effort. They said they could stop our whole planet from functioning." No one else reported seeing or hearing the object or voice.

The authors indicate that the source is John A. Keel, Why UFOs (New York: Manor, 1970), p. 184, also published as UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse (New York: Putnam's Sons, 1970).

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in New York City, New York, on November 9, 1965 at night, trapped in his room on the 12th floor of a hotel during the famous 1965 power blackout, actor Stuart Whitman heard a "whistling" sound outside the window and then saw 2 luminous discs, 1 blue, the other orange, hovering outside. A loudspeaker like voice told Whitman. "They are fearful of earth because earthlings were messing around with unknown quantities and might disrupt the balance of the universe and their planet - the blackout was just a little demonstration of their power, and they could do a lot more with almost no effort. They said they could make the whole planet stop from functioning."

Albert Rosales indicates as source John Keel.

[Ref. bk1:] BILL KNELL:

UFO book author and UFO radio show host Bill Knell deals with celebrities UFO sightings and wrote that just after the famous 1960's blackout in New York City, accounts of UFO sightings reported by City Police and Fireman surfaced, reported by the local news media, and actors Warren Beatty and Stuart Whitman also claimed to have seen strange disc-shaped glowing objects in the skies over New York during the power outage.

[Ref. bk2:] BILL KNELL:

Bill Knell indicates that actors Warren Beatty and Stuart Whitman reported seeing disc-shaped UFOs near the Empire State Building as they both happened to be staying in the same hotel and witnessed the objects from their hotel room windows.

[Ref. dw1:] DAVID E. WOLIN:

David Wolin indicates that on November 9, 1965, when the lights turned off because of the big power blackout, famous Hollywood actor Stuart Whitman was blocked at the twelfth floor of a Manhattan hotel . He then claimed to have seen two UFOs hovering in front of his window and that they communicated a message to him: "They told me that it was them, the intelligences animating the UFOs, who were responsible for the power blackout. They said they did this to prove to the populations of the world the reality of their existence and their extraordinary action capacities... They told me their concern to see us persisting in developing and testing nuclear weapons. Their intervention was a peaceful demonstration of power... They said that this display was only a small demonstration of the capacity they have to prevent us from destroying our civilization and the nearby planets. They were rather clear on their intentions to intervene if we went too far in our quarrelsome operations. They stated they are able, at any moment, to block the operation of all our electrical devices and to stop the course of our usual activities."

[Ref. tg1:] TIM GOOD:

The author indicates that the legendary Hollywood actor Stuart Whitman was alone in his hetal room during the 9 November 1965 Northeastern American blackout, and was awoken just before dawn by a whistling sound from outside his 12th-floor hotel room. He saw two objects, and explained to reporter Vernon Scott that "one of them was orange and the other was blue. They gave off a strange luminescent light, so I couldn'0t see if there were portholes or who was in them."

"Then I heard then speaking to me as if they were on a loudspeaker. They spoke to me in English. It may not have been audible to anyone else: I was probably tuned to the right wavelength. Points to consider:

Stuart Whitman

US actor Stuart Whitman (Left) was born in 1928, and is best-known for playing Marshal Jim Crown in the western television series Cimarron Strip in 1967. He also acted in the TV series "Simon and Simon" et "Murder, She Wrote", and starred with John Wayne in the Western movie The Comancheros in 1961, and starred in the movie "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines in 1965."

Vernon Scott (1923-2002) was the United Press International Hollywood correspondent and columnist for 52 years, and a widely respected member of the Hollywood journalistic community. He kept a daily column for UPI starting in 1952 and also offered a radio version of his comments on the UPI Radio Network for 12 years.

The story is for now, unverified: I have no documents available proving that Whitman really did tell Scott what appears in ufology sources, even less evidence that what was told had really happened.
