A report by the S.B.E.D.V. ufology group indicated soon after the events that on July 26, 1965, at night, student Adilson Batista Azevedo, 14, left his home with his comrades Nelson Vieira, 17, and João Pereira, 14, to go to the movie theater.
As the Adilson's residence was on the periphery of the city, they had to walk during 10 minutes. Arrived at the level of a wasteland, between the streets of November 15, street of General Cenabarro and street Alexandre da Mota, they saw in the sky, coming out of a cloud, at an altitude given as 500 meters, a strong light in the shape of a cone, which illuminated the ground on a 10 meters strip.
As the light went down quickly with a strange buzzing sound, the boys were frightened. Nelson and João, thought of a shooting star or a meteor, or even more dangerous, a cloud of bees, and run away shouting "These are bees! These are bees!"
Adilson was to be more curious and managed to observe that it was an ovoid object of 5 or 6 meters in length and 1.50 meters in height, which landed in the ground in the wasteland, 40 meters away. He thought that the apparatus did not touch the ground but remained motionless 1 meter above the ground.
Three minutes later, another object appeared, illuminated the ground and landed with the same buzzing sound, stopping at 3 or 4 meters of the first, on the same level, the two machines projecting a beam of light towards the ground, from their lower part. They were of identical shapes, however, the second appeared much smaller, maybe only 2 or 3 meters long.
Two "small" beings, 1.5 meters tall, or 2.0 meters according to a local newspaper, came out of the largest craft, walking around it. They made gestures and talked in an incomprehensible language full with "S" and "Z", in low-pitched voices like those of old people.
Adilson remained there, observing them during one or two minutes and, at a time when the crew was on the side, he advanced of 30 meters, entered the wasteland, and hid behind an old well, at only 30 or 40 meters of the crews.
They wore dark clothing and a luminous helmet. Coming out of the helmet, from the nose level down to the chest, there was a darker strip.
After 5 minutes of observation, Adilson noticed that three crew members, of identical stature, had left the smaller apparatus and moved towards the first group, speaking in the same whistling idiom. One from this second group held a luminous object in the right hand and walked to and fro. A little later, the two small men of the first group made three tours around their craft and entered inside, by the lower part, bending down sufficiently for that.
The craft took off vertically, increasing at this time its buzzing sound and disappearing in a few seconds, lost among the stars. The three crew members of the second apparatus continued to talk 3 more minutes, then made the same movements as the previous group, bending, finally, to disappear below the craft, which soon rose, at high speed, disappearing quickly.
Adilson then joined his friends at the movie theater, where he remained only half an hour because he felt a strong headache. He went to a pharmacy, bought a tablet of Fontol, which did not make effect. The next day, his father, Gumercindo Batista Azevedo, impressed by the story, took him to a doctor, who prescribed him sedatives that also were of no use. His headache continued during 5 days and 5 nights, and then ceased suddenly.

The report by the S.B.E.D.V. ufology group indicates that on July 26, 1965, at night, student Adilson Batista Azevedo, aged 14, left his home in company of his comrades Nelson Vieira, aged 17, and João Pereira, aged 14, who had invited him to go see a movie at the movie theater.
As the Adilson's residence is on the periphery of the city, they had to walk during 10 minutes. Arrived at the level of a wasteland, between the streets of November 15, street of General Cenabarro and street Alexandre da Mota, they saw in the sky, coming out of a cloud, 500 meters high, a hearth of strong light, in the shape of a cone, which illuminated the ground on a 10 meters strip.
As the light went down quickly, with a strange buzzing sound, the boys were frightened. Nelson and João Pereira, thinking that it was a shooting star, or a meteor, or even more dangerous, of a cloud of bees, run away while shouting:
"- These are bees! These are bees!"
Adilson was to be more curious and managed to observe that it was an ovoid object of 5 or 6 meters in length and 1.50 meters in height, which landed in the ground in the waste land, at 40 meters from where he was. The apparatus did not touch the ground but remained motionless at 1 meter of the ground.

Two small beings, 1.5 meters tall, came out of the largest craft, walking around it. They made gestures and talked, in an incomprehensible language full with SS and ZZ, with low-pitched voices like those of old people. Adilson remained there, observing them during one or two minutes and, at the time when the creatures were on the side, he advanced of thirty meters and entered the waste land, to look at it more closely. He his behind the cement walls of an old well, at only 30 or 40 meters of the crew members. They wore dark clothing and a luminous helmet. Coming out of the helmet, since at the height of the nose, down to the chest, a strip went down, darker than the clothing, being distinct from the clothes sufficiently.
After 5 minutes of observation, Adilson noticed that three crew members, of identical stature, had left the smaller apparatus and moved towards the first group, speaking in the same whistling idiom. One from this second group held in the right hand a luminous object and walked to and fro. A little later the two small men of the first group made a tour around their craft three times and entered inside, by the lower part, bending down sufficiently for that.
The craft took off vertically, increasing at this time its buzzing sound and disappearing in a few seconds, lost among the stars. The three crew members of the second spaceship continued to speak 3 more minutes, then made the same movements as the previous group, bending, finally, to disappear below the craft, which soon rose, at high speed, disappearing quickly.
After "his hallucinating adventure", Adilson went to join his friends at the movie theater, where he remained only half an hour, because he felt a strong headache. He went to a pharmacy, bought a tablet of Fontol, which did not make effect. The next day his father, Gumercindo Batista Azevedo, impressed by the story, took him to a doctor, who prescribed him sedatives that also were of no use. his headache continued during 5 days and 5 nights, and then ceased suddenly.

[Ref. gc1:] GORDON CREIGHTON:
The ufologist indicates that in Carazinho, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on the evening of July 26, 1965, Adilon Batista Azevedo, age 15, was lagging behind a party of youths who were going to a movie theater. When he passed across a piece of open ground on the outskirts of the town, he heard a strange hum and saw two cones of white light in the sky, and then saw two "roundish" craft, one larger than the other, land not far from him.
He hid behind the low circular wall of a well and saw three entities emerge from one craft and two from the other. The two groups of entities combined, and he heard them talk together like nothing he had ever heard in his life.
The beings were about 1.50 meters tall, in helmets and one-piece space-suits of a dark color and small boots. One of them had a brilliantly luminous object like a wand in his right hand.
They talked together for about five minutes, then each group walked round its machine three times, bending down and examining the hull.
The boy estimated the diameter of the larger machine at 5 or 6 meters, and Dr Buhler's SBEDV Bulletin shows the boy's sketches of craft and entities, with the entities strikingly resembling the sketches made by the Brazilian farmer Antonio Villas Boas of the people whom he met.
Once the inspection completed, they re-entered the machines; which took off at such fantastic speed that in a second or two they were just two more tiny spots of light among the stars.
The boy ran to join his friends at the movie theater, but soon felt such a violent headache that after half an hour or so, he had to seek a chemist who gave him some tablets, to no avail as the headache lasted five days.
The boy's father was greatly alarmed and took him to a doctor, who prescribed medicines and rest for the headache and for a "disturbed heart."
Gordon Creighton indicates that he read two sources for the case. He preferred the report by Dr. Buhler in the S.B.E.D.V Bulletin #45-47 for July/August 1965, to the report in the newspaper Diario de Noite for August 3, 1965, as the latter has differences in the boy's name and says the entities were "almost two meters tall".
[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:
In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on July 26, 1965, at 08:00 p.m., in Carazinho, Brazil, a teenager, Adilon Azevedo, and others who fled, saw two objects at ground level, about 3 meters in diameter, 1.5 meters high, with five occupants, wearing luminous helmets, speaking among themselves, in unfamiliar language. One of the beings had a bright object in his hand. The witness experienced headaches for five days.
Vallée indicates that his source is "Humanoids 41."
[Ref. lo1:] CORAL AND JIM LORENZEN:
The authors indicate that in the evening of July 26, 1965, a 15-year-old boy, Adilon Batista Azevedo was on his way to a movie, and as he walked across a piece of open ground on the outskirts of the city of Carazinho, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, he heard a strange humming sound, then saw two cones of light, and two round craft landing not far from him.
He hid, and watched three humanlike beings emerge from one machine, and two from the other, then the two groups combined and talked in a strange language for about five minutes, they walked around the machines three times, bending down and looking at the hull.
The beings were about 5 feet tall, wore helmets and one-piece suits of dark color, and boots, and one held a brilliant object similar to a wand in one hand.
After the inspection of the craft, the entities reentered their machines, which took off at great speed and were gone within seconds.
The authors say that sketches of the objects and the entities submitted to Dr. Buhler of the Brazilian UFO Investigation Group resemble the descriptions of the beings seen by Antonio Villas-Boas in 1957.
[Ref. jv2:] JACQUES VALLEE:
Jacques Vallée indicates that it is necessary to take into account the stories of appearances of fairies when studying UFO reports, and that in the case of Carazinho in Brazil, five small beings dressed in black uniforms and small boots appeared, and we are told that one of them had in the hand an amazingly luminous object, like a "fairie's magic wand".
[Ref. pd1:] PIERRE DELVAL:
The author indicates that between November and July 1965, eight UFO landings of unknown apparatuses were recorded in Brazil, one being on July 19, 1965, at 8 p.m., in Carazinho in Rio Grande do Sul.
[Ref. go1:] GODELIEVE VAN OVERMEIRE:
The ufologist indicates that on July 26, 1965 in Brazilin Carazinho, according to Jacques Vallée, "... it was five dwarves that appeared, dressed in black uniforms and small boots. We are told that two of them had in the hand a surprisingly luminous object, like a magic wand" (Jacques VALLEE: "Chroniques des apparitions E.T." - DENOEL 1972 - J'Ai Lu collection p. 105).
According to Charles Bowen: "En quête des humanoïdes" - J'Ai Lu 1974, p. 137, 138, in the evening, Adilon Batista Azevedo, 15, strolled behind a group of young people who went to the movies. Whereas he crossed an opened ground in the periphery of the city, he heard a strange buzzing sound and saw two white cones of light in the sky, then two almost round apparatuses, one larger than the other, land not far from him. He hid behind the low wall of a well and saw three entities emerge from one craft and two from the other. The two teams met and he could hear their words which resembled nothing he had ever heard. The beings measured 1 m 50, carried helmets and diving suits of one piece, of dark color as well as small boots. One of them carried at the right hand a very luminous object resembling a rod. They conversed in their whistling language during 5 minutes approximately, then each team turned around their craft three times while concentrating to examine the hull. The inspection finished they went up in their apparatuses which flew away at speed so fantastic that in one second or two they were nothing any more but one tiny point among stars. Adilon ran to join his friends at the movies but soon felt such a violent headache that he had to go to pharmacist's to buy tablets. Without the least result, as its headache lasted during five days (...).

The author indicates that in the case of Carazinho, in the State of Rio Grande do Azul, Brazil, in the evening of July 26, 1965, Adilon Batista Azevedo, aged 15, observed small beings of 1.50 meters approximately, who conversed in an incomprehensible "whistling language."
[Ref. dj1:] DONALD JOHNSON:
Donald Johnson indicates that on July 26, 1965, a teenager, Adilon Azevedo, and others in Carazinho, Brazil who fled the scene, saw two UFOs at ground level. They were about three meters in diameter, 1.5 meters high, and contained five occupants who wore luminous helmets and spoke among themselves in an unfamiliar language. One of the beings had a bright object in its hand. The witness experienced headaches for five days following the close encounter.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Carazinho, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil, on July 26, 1965, at 2000, Adilon Batista Azevedo saw two rounded objects land not far away, the larger one about 16 ft in diameter. Hiding behind a well, he saw 3 entities emerge from the larger machine, 2 from the other. They were about 5 ft tall and wore helmets and one-piece dark spacesuits; one carried a brilliantly luminous object like a wand. They spoke to each other in sibilant tones while they walked around the craft, apparently inspecting them. Then they re-entered and took off at fantastic speeds. The boy soon felt a violent headache that lasted 3 days.

The website indicates that on July 26, 1965, at 20:00, in Carazinho, Brazil, teenager Adilon Azevedo and others who fled saw two objects at ground level, about three meters in diameter, 1.5 meters high, with five occupants, wearing luminous helmets, speaking among themselves in an unfamiliar language. One of the beings had a bright object in his hand. The witness experienced headaches for 5 days.
In a second summary next to the first, the website indicates that Adilon Batista Azevedo saw two rounded objects land not far away, the larger one about 16 feet in diameter. He hid behind a well, saw 3 entities emerge from the larger machine, 2 from the other, that were about 5 feet tall and wore helmets and one-piece dark spacesuits, one carrying a brilliantly luminous object like a wand. Reading the primary source, the report by S.B.E.D.V., I cannot help that think that the entire episode might have been caused by two helicopters and their crew:
It might be argued against the possibility of helicopters when one looks only at the surface of the report.
How could he not recognize helicopters? First, because this was all in the dark night, with clouds mentioned, possibly with no moon or the moon hidden in clouds.
What about the luminous magic fairy wand one "entity" held? This was likely no fairy magic wand. This was likely a flashlight. Remember that the "entity" who has it walked to and fro. The entity was just a man using a flashlight onto the ground, sweeping the beam left and right. "Luminous" does not mean that the wand was luminous. It means that there was some beam of light. "Wand" is the alteration of what was just "a luminous object" in the original report, the notion that it looked like a "magic wand" is absurd, and the notion that it has anything to do with fairies is even more absurd, it only comes from Vallée's wishful thinking in wanting to prove that stories of "aliens" are "like fairies stories". Vallée does actually state that his catalogue is of cases with "varied" credibility, that he does not claim any of it is real, that it is only a general reading guide, and warns that conclusions drawn upon it are not his responsibility, but does not hear his own warning when he used the case.
Were the "entities" really "small"? The newspaper apparently indicated "2 meters tall", S.B.E.D.V. indicated 1.50 meters tall. This simply suggests that the boy was not very sure, and this is only normal: it was in the night, and in the night, sizes and distances can be incorrectly appreciated. What we know is only that the sizes might have been anywhere around 1.50 and 2.0 meters, and this is nothing impossible to an helicopter crew.
Did the S.B.E.D.V. investigators think about helicopters? Obviously not. Nothing in the report indicates that they did, whereas they ultimately call the apparatuses "spaceship". This does suggest that it was obvious that they were spaceship and never thought of helicopters. It is also not obvious at all that there was a careful investigation here. For example, not one word is said about looking on the ground for foot prints of the "entities" or landing traces of the craft! Quite a missed opportunity at gathering evidence, if you think at it.
What about the entities resembling those reported by Mr. Villas Boas? This is only an opinion by Gordon Creighton, purely and simply copied by the Lorenzen, the drawing does not show any detailed entities, only human-like silhouettes, and yes, some of the sketches in the Villas Boas incident also show human like silhouettes. Only close-ups show that they were, to Mr. Villas Boas, not "really" human. Human like silhouettes are exactly that, human silhouettes, just like an helicopter crew would have been seen as human looking silhouettes.
Was not the sighting distance so close that helicopters would be recognized as such? Unfortunately, this is one of the data in the report that seems dubious. The photograph of the locations and the position of the UFOs on the corresponding sketch show that the well was certainly not just at 30 or 40 meters from the UFOs. What was needed here with the report is a location map with a scale, indicating the positions and the distances, a crucial piece of any good investigation report. But there is no such map here. On the contrary, there is even an apparent contradiction in the report's text. It is said that the craft landed 40 meters from where he was. Then it is said, Adilson advanced of 30 meters and entered the waste land. This would, at first sight, mean that the UFOs landed at 10 meters from the edge of the waste land, and that Adilson was practically where the "entities" walked around the UFOs. This is indicative of a lack of care in assessing the sighting distances, again: a map of the location with the positions of the UFOs, the wasteland, the street, the trees, the farm houses, the well, should have been produced. But at least we do have a picture of the location showing where the well is, where the farm houses and trees are, and a sketch - on which the distance between the wll and the UFO is obviously underestimated - that puts the UFOs near the farm houses, obviously much more then 10, 30 or 40 meters. And should of course be remembers that it all happened in the dark winter night at 8 p.m.
Another indication that distances were not understood is that the boy told that the two UFOs were identical except that one was smaller than the other. This very simply suggests that they were really identical but the second was more distant and thus appeared smaller; and this is actually what the sketch shows. The report's author should have realized that but obviously he gave it no consideration.
But what about the five days headache? first, I, for one, do have migraines occasionally, with no spaceship involved. Migraines can last days, migraines do not go away with sedatives of drugs for ordinary headaches, they do require specific drugs, and migraines can stop suddenly. Migraines can be caused by exceptional stress, and it is likely that the boy was stressed, from the experience as he did not understand it. An effect such as a migraine does not prove at all that these were spaceship and not helicopters. But it is a fact that many ufologist do not understand that, and when a witness report such effect, they indeed assume that it is "evidence", "physiological effect caused by the UFO", that confirms an out-of-the ordinary nature of the experience. Not so in this case.
What about the luminous helmets? This is actually the only real strangeness in this case. Helicopter pilots would not have been wearing luminous helmets ("capacete luminoso" in the original report.) Unfortunately this is not enough to me to dismiss helicopters, as there is the possibility that the boy meant "clear colored helmets", "bright helmets", and was misunderstood, or that it was a detail invented in the newspaper, or even, that the boy exaggerated somehow - this is why an investigation report should contain the verbatim statements of the witness(es). If there had been sufficient elements of strangeness in the report to discard helicopters, then this would have been one of them, but here, this is the only detail that apparently goes against helicopters (It should be checked whether flashlight-equipped helmets must be ruled out).
This case shows that when an investigation is not correctly done, a case of false strangeness appears. False strangeness because any ufologist with a little experience could wonder whether this was not just an helicopter landing sighting. False strangeness because each and every later version distorts what was said originally in the report:
