JUNE 1959, SUPERIOR, MONTANA, USA, QUELQU'UN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

A person reported into 2000 via the NUFORC web UFO sighting report form a series of experience without UFO in 1959 in Superior, Montana, the USA, whereas he was 11 years old, and was staying at his grandfather's for three weeks.

The 1st or 2nd morning, he awoke early and noticed that the door of the room was sligtly opened a few centimetres; which he thought being impossible for hisr grandfather was firm about the closing of the doors, particularly in the night, and nobody could have entered the house.

The next night he decided to keep himself awake all the night, and he noted that the door "jumped" open a few centimeters apparoximately after midnight, and that the light of the hall was turned on.

He said that if he let himself approach the state of sleep, but not completely, the door would open more. During all this, his grandfather slept in the same bed between him and the door, and made deafening noises snoaring and had violent nightmares all the night.

Anxious, at the sixth night, the witness let himself into a half-sleep, "a drifting sort of awareness and readiness to prod myself into a quick alert if disturbed", and was in this state perhaps only 30 - 40 seconds. He suddenly had a feeling of an intrusion and suddenly opened the eyes to find the door open several inches, and to see five creatures throwing a glance in the opening.

He describes them as resembling exactly the traditional "Grays", but he saw only their heads while they leaned one above the other. He then though they resembled little circus men, but that it was because he had never heard about the "Grays" or aliens in 1959.

He made the same kind of experiences several more times, with the door less opened, each time that he tried not to fall asleep.

On such an occasion, there were "a column, or zone, of vibrating light, highly energetic, but without sound" and it deduced from this that the creatures were "transported" in the room using some kind of energy field.

He had never told anything of all this to his parents because he did not expect to be believed.

Twenty nights of stalking, apparent abduction attempts by Grey "alien" creatures, 1959.

I've never seen a UFO, but may have one better than that. In 1959 I was visiting my grandfather at his house on the mountainous outskirts of Superior, Montana (this was the old railroad signal maintainer's house). I made this visit every summer for 2 weeks - in this case I stayed three weeks, but for the last time. The 1st or 2nd morning I awoke early and noticed that the bedroom door was ajar an inch. But this was impossible as my grandfather was religious about closing and locking doors, especially at night. Nor was there any possible way anyone could have gotten into the house. So I kept myself awake all the next night, and, oddly, the door did pop open roughly after midnight. It also appeared that the hall light was on, because I could easily see the light from the opened door. But the door did not open much more than an inch, unless, that is, I was extremely still and relaxed over several minutes, then it would gently open to 4-6 inches. If I allowed myself to approach sleep, but not quite, 6 inches could be pretty well assured. During all this, my grandfather slept in the same bed between myself and the door. He had a bad case of apnea and made thunderous snoring noises and had violent nightmares all night. After about six nights, I asked him if we could swap - this would put my head only about 3 feet from the door and facing just a little into the hall. Still, I could see very little all night and the door never opened over about 4 inches. Finally, I coaxed myself into a half-sleep, a drifting sort of awareness and readiness to prod myself into a quick alert if disturbed. Remember, it seemed as if I was safe enough as long as I was awake, but it was also fairly obvious that whatever was watching was not human and could be a serious threat. "It" had something in mind, obviously, and it planned to come closer at the first opportunity. I first entered that half awake state on about the sixth day and was in it perhaps only 30-40 seconds. The thought that my privacy might already have ! been inv aded or I might be in danger came suddenly, and I abruptly opened my eyes. Yes, the door was open a good 9-12 inches. There were five creatures peeking in the opening. They looked exactly like the classic Grey, except that I could only see their heads as they leaned over each other. I thought they looked like little circus men, but had never heard of Greys or space aliens in 1959, and I was only 11. Now, after they'd been caught in this way, the door was kept much tighter. I thought perhaps they'd been frightened completely away, but no, they came again each night, but the door never again opened more than an inch. Their boldness had been diminished. But I was still very curious myself, so I stayed. In fact, I decided to stay longer than my two week plan. I was not frightened too much, but quite frightened at the thought of going to sleep, because I didn't know what they might then do. But staying awake all night every night for 20+ days can be difficult, so I ended up drifting off again. Again, I abruptly opened my eyes. This time the door remained nearly shut as usual, but something else was happening. There was a column, or zone, of vibrating light, highly energetic, but without sound. It appeared that the creatures were "transporting" into the room with some sort of energy field. I've heard of abductees reporting a bluish light. I don't remember any actual color, but I do remember the strong, twitching movements and concentrated light about a foot wide and roughly four foot high. This is my big story. It is quite true, not exaggerated one iota, and I am therefore fully convinced of the Greys' reality. I got very bored with the game after that, was a bit frightened, and so I went home. I didn't tell the old folks about it because I did not expect to be believed.

NUFORC Note: Although we believe that some interaction takes place between humans and otherworldly creatures, this may be the first time we have ever heard of twenty straight nights of visitation. Moreover, it allegedly occurred in 1959, which raises the question of how the witness could remember the number of nights of visitation, and other details, so precisely. PD

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Superior, Montana, on June 1959, at 01:00 a.m., after several nights of waking up and finding the door to the bedroom ajar, the witness woke up that night to see five gray colored figures standing by the door looking at him and his sleeping grandfather next to him. He could see a column of light or "energy" in the middle of the room that appeared to be vibrating without any sound. This appeared to be the mode of transportation for the creatures. According to the witness this intrusion was repeated several nights in a row. No other information.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is NUFORC.

Points to consider:

This certainly not a hoax, even if the repetition of the experience seemed to suggest it. This is a splendid case of hypnagogic hallucinations, with the very rare particularity that the witness purposefully put himself in the state that create such experiences; hence the repetition of the experiences.

Hypnagogic hallucinations occur when the person is in a state in-between being awake and being asleep.

In this case, this state occurred naturally the first time. The stimulus that created this particular state on half-consciousness is very likely the one indicated by the witness: the snoaring noises of the grandfather. Indeed, most cases of hypnagogic hallucination start with either a sound stimulus, or a stimulus caused by some light. Such stimulus draw a person partly out of the sleeping state partly to a wake state, but not necessarily fully awake the person. In this situation, mental images of the dreams start to get a rather "real" aspect whereas dreams do not show this "real" aspect when one is fully asleep. Dreams normally only leave vague memories in the norning, if not completely forgotten.

After this first experience, in the next nights, the witness tried not to fall asleep. This is of course impossible to achieve over several nights; sooner or later, the witness does start to fall asleep and enters the particular state of half-consciousness half-sleep in which hypnagogic hallucinations occur.

Interestingly, at the time of the experiences, he interpreted the beings as "little circus men"; it is of course only later, when he heard of tales of "Grays" that he reintepreted the experience in this new framework.

Had he visited a "hypnostist ufologist", "alien abduction expert" , and be submitted to hypnosis sessions, it is quite probable that "more" stuff would have been "uncovered", such as the classical "medical examination on board an alien UFO". And of course he could have been "floated through" the roof, something that some ufologist view as wonderous "alien technology" or "other dimensions" phenomena; which really is only the sort of things that are totally normal in dream-like experiences.

Although hypnagogic experiences are now quite understood in the medical litterature on non-pathological sleep disorders and sleep phenomena, although there are knowledgeable ufologists who understand this phenomenon, many other ufologists are still unable to identify such causes when they apply and still believe such experiences are alien encounters or alien abductions.
