February 1937 or 1938, Sainte-Pazanne, Loire-Atlantique, France, Mr. and Mrs. Billon:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

According to the apparently most reliable version, at Sainte-Pazanne, Loire-Atlantique, France, on an unknown day in February 1937 or 1938, at about 8 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Billon were driving towards Machecoul, when they observed in a field a hundred meters from the road a shape, all illuminated and multicolored, especially in orange color, of almost square shape, 2 m high and 1.50 m wide, placed on the ground.

The witnesses also saw at least two "beings" about one meter tall who went back and forth in front of the object. They appeared dressed in dark brown-green uniforms.

The witnesses were very scared and shocked by this incident.

It seems that there was no investigation, the origin of the story was apparently a letter sent by the witness to Mrs. Gueudelot of the LDLN ufology group on August 22, 1978.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

13.

Ste. Pazanne, France

on February 1937 at 08:00 p.m.

On a road near this village a Mr. Billon and a female friend saw hovering in a field very close from the ground a luminous multi-colored almost square-shaped object. They could see two figures about 1 meter in height walking back and forth very rapidly in front of the object. The witnesses watched the scene from about 100 meters away. The figures appeared to be wearing brown-green colored uniforms. The witnesses were in a state of shock after the incident.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "Denys Breysse, Project Becassine".

[Ref. js1:] JEAN SIDER:

This author indicates that in 1937 or 1938, one evening, around 08:00 p.m. in Ste-Pazanne, the Loire-Atlantique, France, Mr. and Mrs. Billon, who srove not far from the locality La Bazonnière, saw at a hundred meters of the road an object, luminous, rectangular and with rounded corners., whose estimated proportions were 2 m high and 1.5 m wide.

It rested on the ground or almost, and there were at least two people about one meter tall, busy moving in front of the object.

Jean Sider indicates that the source is a communication of Joel Mesnard, according to an investigation of Yves Chosson in the 1970s, and that there are no other details provided.

[Ref. jg1:] JULIEN GONZALEZ:

The author indicates that in Sainte-Pazanne, Loire-Atlantique, France, on an unknown day of February 1937 or 1938, at 08:00 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Billon drove towards Machecoul, when they observed in a field at a hundred meters from the road a form all illuminated and multicolored, especially in orange color, almost square shaped, of 2 m high and 1.50 m wide, placed on the ground.

The witnesses also saw at least two beings about one meter tall who went back and forth in front of the object. They appeared dressed in dark brown-green uniforms.

The witnesses were very scared and shocked by this incident.

Julien Gonzalez notes that there was no investigation, and that this was in a letter sent by the witness to Mrs. Gueudelot of the LDLN group on August 22, 1978, according to a communication of Yves Chosson to Denys Breysse on April 03, 1991.

He says the sources are "List of humanoid cases by Albert Rosales (http://ufoinfo.com/humanoid/index.shtml) quoting Denys Breysse, Project Becassine"; and "Denis Breysse's personal communication (June 2009)."

Points to consider:

What a mess with the transmission of the case!

Obviously the correct history seems to be that given By Julien Gonzalez: Mr. Billon sent a letter to Mrs Geudelot of the LDLN group, and other ufologists heard about, but there was no "investigation of Yves Chosson" as claimed by Jean Sider, who either did not understand what Joël Mesnard told him, or Joël Mesnard introduced an error from his memories.

What should have happened is also obvious: Mrs Gueudelot should have pubished the letter, it should have been made available in print at the time - in LDLN for example, and made available on the Internet when this became possible.

Instead (see sources references below), we have an imbroglio of ufologist quoting ufologist quoting ufologist, and differences in the their reports. Not fatal differences, but still...

The sighting itself is very unimpressive to me. This could very well be a misinterpretation of some military team (hence the "dark brown-green uniforms") near a vehicle (hence the "almost square", non-flying object), with the use of projectors.

Just consider the distance. Some version let us suppose a 100 meters distance between the witnesses and the objects of their observation. But if one reads well Julien Gonzalez, the distance is the distance between the field and the road; this is not the same distance! What if the field was 100 m from the road, and 500 m wide, with the UFO at the other end of it?

Whatever it may be, it seems clear that the distance between the witnesses and the object and beings must have been more than 50 meters. At more than 50 meters, sizes of anything unknown cannot be established with the human vision, even more so in the night while driving past. And even the "100 m" distance could be underestimated.

A misinterpretation is definitely possible. But none of all the ufologists who had knowledge of this case did say so.
