Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

The famous events in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917, included the story that three children reported seeing a panorama of visions, including those of Jesus, "Our Lady of Sorrows", "Our Lady of Mt. Carmel", and of "Saint Joseph blessing the people." The children had made predictions of a "miracle" on 13 July 1917, 19 August 1917, and 13 September 1917. They stated that the "Lady" had promised them that she would on 13 October reveal her identity to them and provide a miracle "so that all may believe." Not all gathered witnesses reported seeing the sun "dance" on the said date: some people only saw radiant colors. Others, including some believers, saw nothing at all. Some say the whole affair was just a parhelia phenomenon, other, such as ufologist Auguste Meessen, argued it happened because people stared at the sun for much too long. I suspect both explanations may apply.

Countless books and articles were written and debate rages about the alleged miracle and the alleged children visions. What does seem clear is that the children did not claim to see any "aliens", but figures clearly inspired of the catholic mythology.

This did not prevent some ufologists to list the affair as one or several "close encounters of the third kind".

In the Albert Rosales "humanoid sighting reports" catalogue, the children's alleged visions are even very wrongly dated, making three "cases", for May 17, 1913, July 17, 1913, August 17, 1913!

Albert Rosales indicates that in Cova da Iria, Fatima, Portugal, on May 17, 1913, at noon, three children were collecting their sheep about noon when they saw a flash in the sky. Later a white bright figure appeared near a tree. The entity resembled a beautiful female. A powerful bright light surrounded it. It appeared to be 12 to 15 years old, was about 4 ft tall, and was wearing a tight skirt, a coat, and a cloak. Her head was covered by "something" hiding the ears and hair. Her eyes were dark. She was carrying a string of beads around her neck and a ball of light at the waist level. She had appeared to come from the sky and vanished in stages. She did not execute any facial movements and her feet did not move while walking. She also spoke without moving her lips. Moved her hands briefly, turned back to the witnesses when leaving. This contact lasted for 20 minutes.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Joaquim Fernandes, Fina D'Armada.

Albert Rosales indicates that in Cova da Iria, Portugal, on July 17, 1913, in the afternoon, the witnesses, three young shepherds, had another encounter with an entity supposed to have been the "Holy Virgin." A noise like thunder was heard before she appeared. When leaving, a noise like a rocket could also be heard.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Joaquim Fernandes.

Albert Rosales indicates that in Cova da Iria, Fatima, Portugal, on August 17, 1913, in the afternoon, the three children heard a noise like thunder and lighting and a noise like "a thousand bee" While the entity spoke to the three children a strange white smoke cloud formed over the tree where the entity appeared. Several colorful clouds were also seen in the sky, and daylight became darker than usual. The temperature went down and a quite pleasant smell was felt. Several objects were seen in the clouds, strange small balls hovered over the trees. The entity moved over "stairs of light." The sheep apparently felt a tranquilizing effect.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Joaquim Fernandes.

[Ref. wi1:] WIKIPEDIA EN:

Cova da Iria ("Irene's Cove") was a land belonging to L˙cia Santos' family in Fatima, Portugal. Lucia was one the three visionary children who, according to Roman Catholic Church, received several visitations and messages by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. The Children used to frequently pasture their sheep on this land, and it was on May 13, 1917, around noon, that Our Lady of Fatima appeared to the three of them. The story goes that suddenly there was lightning, and the children, L˙cia Santos and Jacinta and Francisco Marto, thinking that it was going to rain, began to run. Then, just above an oak tree, they saw a beautiful lady made of light, holding a rosary in her hand. Our Lady of Fatima spoke to the children and told them not to be afraid. "I come from Heaven", she said.

At Cova da Iria, on a huge esplanade, a little chapel was built, in the place the apparitions took place. Since the Holy See has officially approved the Fatima apparitions and the messages given to the three shepherd children, the place has become an important center of pilgrimage to which people from all over the world travel in a spirit of faith and penance. The chapel has been expanded and is now much larger.

Points to consider:

Once again something that has nothing to do with the CE3 issue entered a ufology catalogue, with totally wrong dates!

Below: The alleged witnesses, Lucia dos Santos (left) with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto, at Fatima, Portugal, 1917.
