LATE FEBRUARY 1913, KILLARY HARBOUR, GALWAY COUNTY, IRELAND, MR. COLLINS:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Albert Rosales says in his catalogue that according to Nigel Watson, a British ufologist, in Killary Harbour, Ireland, on late February 1913, at an unknown time, one Mr. Collins was aboard his yacht when he saw a strange "aeroplane-like" object approaching from the sea.

It suddenly ditched into the water near the shore. Collins then approached the craft, which was now apparently at the shore.

He saw three occupants apparently working on the object. Two were tall, heavy set, blond haired and light complexioned.

Thinking they were or German origin, he asked in German if they needed any help. One of the men responded in French, claiming he could not understand, and then, in no uncertain terms, told the witness to leave the area. Collins quickly left and did not see the craft depart.

The author says that in February 1913, in Killary Harbor, Ireland, "one Mr. Collins" is aboard his yacht when he sees an object compared to a bizarre airplane come to his boat from off the shore, seeming to fall on the water not far from the shore. Collins is close to the craft which meanwhile moved on the beach and noticed three occupants appearing to be busy at some task on the craft. Both are tall, of imposing stature with blonde hair, Collins believes they are of Germanic origin and asks then in German if they need help. One of the strangers answered in French in an unfriendly manner that he does not understand what Collins says and he asks him to go away. Collins obeyed quickly, he does not see the departure of the vehicle.

Points to consider:

The [ar1] source was copied on many UFO websites without more information.

It may be that more original information is in "The 1912-1913 British Phantom Airship Scare Catalogue" by Nigel Watson, Granville Oldroyd, David Clarke, published by the Fund for UFO Research (FUFOR) in the 1980's.

In 1913, French had for example a three-seater reconnaissance seaplane Nieuport (below). The witness talks about a strange aeroplane-like object, a seaplane could certainly be called so in 1913, and he talks of three men, one of them at least speaking French. Is it possible that there was some French mission having difficulties and forced landing on the sea there in Ireland?

Aviation history (*) indicates that Nieuport seaplanes were ordered already in of 1912, by Italy, Russia, Sweden and Great Britain too. It is thus not excluded that such an incident could have occurred, while the incident has nothing really "UFOesque" in it.
