1912, GALLIPOLIS, OHIO, USA, A MOTHER AND A SON:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

coming apparently from Bigfoot hunter Ron Schaffner, a report says that 10 miles from Gallipolis, Ohio, USA, in 1912, one morning, a man and his mother picking berries in a wooded area saw a dark cloud-like object descending over them, then following them at treetop level.

As they walked away, they noticed a figure walking parallel to them, apparently observing them. It was dark-colored, with wide shoulders, a large bulky head, and no visible neck.

The mother screamed and the figure looked at them, emitting a growling sound. They both ran away and when they looked back the figure and the dark cloud were gone.

Narratives:

[Ref. bo1:] JANET AND COLIN BORD:

In a "Bigfoot" case listing, the authors indicate that in 1912, 10 miles from Gallipolis, Ohio, a mother and a son were berry-picking, when they were followed by a "strange dark cloud" and saw a dark, wide-shouldered monster.

They indicate the source as Ron Schaffner, "A Report on Ohio Anthropoids and Other Strange Creatures" pp. 4-O-2.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates that near Gallipolis, Ohio, in 1912, in the morning, A man and his mother had been out picking berries in a wooded area when they noticed a dark cloud like object descend overhead, it then followed them at treetop level. As they walked away they noticed a figure walking parallel to them, apparently observing them. The figure was dark in color with wide shoulders, a large bulky head, and no visible neck. The woman screamed and the figure looked at them emitting a growling sound. They both ran away and looked back to see both the figure and the dark cloud gone.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Janet and Colin Bord, FSR Vol. 25 # 3.

[Ref. js1:] JEAN SIDER:

The author indicates that in 1912 in the morning close to Gallipolis, Ohio, USA, a man and his mother occupied to gather berries in a wooded zone noticed an object in the shape of a "dark cloud" which came from the sky towards the place where they were.

The phenomenon stopped its descent on the level of the top of the trees and started to follow the witnesses in their walk.

When they left the place they managed to see a silhouette moving in parallel to them all while observing them, an individual dressed black with broad shoulders, a bulky head and no visible neck.

The mother started to shout and the silhouette emitted a kind of low growl, the two witnesses ran away and when they looked back they noted that the black silhouette and the "cloud" had disappeared.

Jean Sider indicates that the source is FSR Vol 25, N°3, in an article by Janet and Colin Bord.

He comments on that there exists multiple cases of modern UFOS which disappear instantaneously under the eyes of the witnesses, which would be "invisibility of a real structure" or "lure of virtual reality", and that maybe "between the moment of invisibility and visibility" there was "a not memorized abduction and an unnoticed missing time of short duration."

[Ref. sj1:] "SASQUATCH JOURNALS":

The website lists a "Sasquatch" in 1912, 10 miles from Gallipolis, Ohio: a mother and a son were berry-picking, when they were followed by a "strange dark cloud" and saw a dark, wide-shouldered monster.

Points to consider:

The note by [js1] that there was an "instantaneous" disappearance is in error. Nothing indicates that.

Of course there seems to be some UFO involved here, but described as some sort of dark cloud, not as clearly a craft.

Black bears are not frequent in Ohio, but exist there. Maybe that is what these people saw:

Dark colored, wide shoulder, no visible neck, growls... This is all we know and it all fits a bear.

The lack of description of clothes or fur and the lack of any other details may be due to a quite important distance of observation.
