ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Haguenau, on July 14, 2015:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2015-07-14-HAGUENAU-1

Summary:

"Experience_K" reported to the UFO website "OVNI France" that on July 14, 2015, at 11:00 p.m., he or she, with his or her sister, saw in the Bas-Rhin in Haguenau an "Orb of changing colors".

They awaited for the fireworks of the National Day, looking everywhere around them, and the author of the report then noticed a light in the sky, changing color, from the green to the red systematically during roughly 50 seconds.

This witness initially thought that it is perhaps a test of fireworks "but that did not resemble a petard", or a projector, but they did not see its beam.

The witness remained to look at "this orb" by wondering whether it were a UFO, and wishes to get more information about it, noting that if it was a UFO it would be the first he or she saw. The witness says that although a young person he or she is "nevertheless impassioned with ufology."

Department: 67 (Bas-Rhin)

Localization: HAGUENAU

Hour: 11:00 p.m.

Numbers [sic] of witnesses: 2 persons

Type of observation: NL: Nocturnal Lights

Approximate duration of the observation: 50 seconds

What was seen: Orb of changing color

Description of the facts:

I and my sister awaited the July 14th fireworks.

during this time, we looked a bit everywhere around us then, I noticed a light in the sky changing color; going from the green to the red systematically during approximatively 50 seconds.

I first told to myself that it could be a fireworks test but it did not resemble a petard or maybe a beam of light projected in the sky but we did not see the beam of the light. i staid [sic] frozen on this orb wondering is it a UFO. I need more information about this event but if it is a UFO it would realy [sic] be the first time i see one of them (i may be young but ufology is nevertheless a passion to me).

Discussion:

Map.

The report, quite incomplete since it lacks the direction, the apparent size, the angular velocity etc, hardly allows for a sure interpretation. However, it is well known that on July 14, the French National day, all kinds of luminous things can be seen in the sky.

Usually, Chinese lanterns cause UFO reports at the time of festivals; but here we have the change of color. Unless some manufacturer now sells two-tone lanterns, it would not be a lantern, and I would rather suspect one of these drones fitted with LED lights one starts to see a little everywhere now.

Evaluation:

Possible drone with LEDs, insufficient information.
