ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mutzig, on July 11, 2014:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2014-07-11-MUTZIG-1

Summary:

On October 19, 2014, on the "Facebook" of the discothèQue "Le Canotier" in Mutzig, someone posing as "Nadine Post" reported seeing "an unknown flying object !!!" on July 11, 2014, at 11 p.m.

The thing is described as "a big round machine, of gray metal, with a diameter of 30 meters, which flew "at the height" of Mutzig. It would have had four large square of lights 1 meter wide which lit with a yellow color, one at each end below the device.

It flew "very low" at about 10 meters above the roof of the "Le Canotier" discotheque, heading to Mutzig coming from the direction of Molsheim.

"Nadine Post" is pleased that there were "fortunately for me," other witnesses. She says she can not tell what it was, but that it was amazing.

Saw an unknown flying object !!!

October 19, 2014, 6:51 p.m.

On July 11, 2014, around 23 o'clock, a big round machine, metallic grey, with a diameter of 30 meters, flew at the level of MUTZIG in Alsace ....

It had four large square lights 1 meter wide which lit in yellow, one at each end below the craft.

It was flying very low at the height of about 10 meters of roof of the LE CANOTIER discotheque in MUTZIG, was heading towards MUTZIG and came from the direction of MOLSHEIM !

INCREDIBLE but true, fortunately for me, there were witnesses too!

I can not tell you what it was but it was great ........

Discussion:

Map.

This first looked to me like a bunch of Chinese lanterns launched at the discotheque (le-canotier.e-monsite.com) (3 rue Mercure in Mutzig), and interpreted overenthusiastically as a "craft" by someone probably a bit young an certainly unexperienced in UFO matters.

No angular size, no speed, no clear heading, no duration, no reporting to a ufology resource... Of course, maybe it was an alien craft. But I am not convinced, so far.

But I had my doubts... The person in charge for the discotheque in actually named "Nadine Post"... So there is little chance that the disco lauchned lanterns without her knowing about it.

Looking for possible parties in the are, I found none in Molsheim, but found a "Country Evenig" at the "7ème Art" bar and at the "L'Espace Pluriel" in Dorlisheim, 2 km in the East (approximately) of the observation place.

But there is another possible explanation.

I had found that this same date, in Sarre-Union, also in the Bas-Rhin, the Zeppelin blimp of the Airship-Paris company had been seen and mistaken for a UFO. So the witness in this case might have realy seen a "craft", with square illuminated portholes.

On August 2, 2013, in the television news show of the TF1 channel (Below), a report said: "It's the return of the new look airship, the Zeppelin. It measures 75 meters in length and is wide like a four ways highway. With a speed if 90 km/h, we discover the beautiful scenery around Paris."

On July 18, 2012, the newspaper L'Alsace reported:

An airship above the Strasbourg cathedral

A team from the Strasbourg producers company Seppia set up a 9m long and 2m wide blimp. Equipped with a camera, it will allow to film the cathedral for the docudrama on the builders of the building, that channel Arte is currently making.

In addition, there is the possibility of the "wingless plane" illusion: sometimes, a low plane seen from the side has "invisible" wings, and is perceived as a "cigar-shaped craft".

On October 11, 2014, the SPICA association informed my by email of the following facts:

They confirm that an airship was in the area.

They indicate that on July 24, 2014, it was seen in Phalsbourg; which is about 25 km from Sarre-Union, at 1 p.n., by two witnesses, and then in Odratzheim, by a witness. They say the markup "AIRSHIP PARIS" was seen.

SPICA having proposed to send me photographs of this IFO, I answered that I would appreciate to get them, and I received them the next day, here it is:

SPICA also told me the photographs were taken in Phalsbourg, except for the airship shot from Odratzheim, and that it was also seen in Louvigny (57) on July 24, 2014.

SPICA added it was also mention on the "Ovni-France" website and provides this report:

Hello,

I don't think it is a "DD" of UFO origin. I live in Saverne and I took pictures of that airhip on 07/11/2014 at 01:54 p.m. - i still have the picture - , which was also reported in DNA ["Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace" regional newspaper]. It was a cigar-shaped dirigible "Airship Paris", nothing to do with a UFO. It still might have been mistaken, it was dark grey, sometimes light grey, and flew slowly, in the direction to Phalsbourg.

Regards.

Evaluation:

Probably the Zeppelin airship of the "Airship Paris" company.

Evaluation:

Unidentified.
