ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

UFO in Alsace (Mulhouse/Hochstatt) in January/February

On January 21, 2013 in the Mulhouse area, some people saw a UFO in the sky that resembled a dozen of red flashing lights. Last evening I was at a party with buddies and at about 2 a.m. the DJ put on music that sucked, then he told us to come at the window, then we saw exactly the same thing but much larger, about fifteen red lights that moved sideways and flashed.

Does someone have an idea about what that might have been ^^ ?

Those were chinese lanterns for the chinese new year...

Discussion:

Map.

Again Chinese lanterns called UFOs by people - young people? - who do not know just yet about them.

The particularity of this case is that, indeed, January 21 is the Chinese New Year, and the residents of the Mulhouse area of Chinese or Asian origin merrily use them for the celebration.

In general, because powerful or noisy firecrackers are now banned in Alsace, more and more people replace then with Chinese lanterns, inexpensive, easy to obtain, for example at www.skylantern.fr, and spectacular.

Evaluation:

Chinese lanterns.
