ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Cernay, on August 18, 2012:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2012-08-18-CERNAY-1

Summary:

On August 19, 2012, "Dav2305", introducunh himself as a 30-year-old cook, posted the testimony of his observation on the ufology forum "Les Mystères des OVNIS".

He said he saw on August 18, 2012, at 10:40 p.m., a strange light in the sky, from Cernay in the Haut-Rhin.

He gave an observation length of 3 minutes, and indicated a very clear sky, and no other witness.

He saw a light moving south-southeast; which he initially thought to be a satellite as it often sees them. But the light was moving much faster, west southwest direction, and performed a turn in the north north west direction for approximately 20 seconds before turning again to the north east. Then it slowed down and descended at a high speed.

At that time he saw a big ball of white light which was almost at an altitude of 10000 feet in his opinion, and he saw "like legs on both sides making believe in a triangle shape." Then the object climbed up in about 4 seconds to the north east to disappear among the stars, at what he believes was the speed of light.

He then explained that it was a "very bright triangle shape compared to the Northern star, but brighter and much bigger."

He indicated that the size of the phenomenon was the "size of my thumb," then on interrogation, he specified that this was the size of the thumbnail when the phenomenon was at its lowest position. There was no sound from the phenomenon.

Hello Dav,

Thanks for your testimony.

You indicate that the object had the apparent size of your thumb (which is colossal and we'll come back to it) but at what time during your observation was the object this size?

Looking forward to reading you

interesting testimony.Indeed the apparent size of the object of one thumb is huge.

Do you have the possibility to make a sketch of your observation.

" a big ball of white light...."

" i saw like legs on the two sides that made believe in a triangle shape..."

regards;

sebastieng

The size of the white light that i noticed was the size of the top of the thumb that is pretty much the nail size, this size was seen when this famous light was at the lowest in my view for a short time before disappearing to the north eqst in my opinion at the speed of light

Strange all this... do e hav a "micro-flap" ? It is reportd on the other side; Vosges slope (88), luminous white light balls that would have been spotted on the 8th et 9th/08 in Neufchateau, on 08/17 on Mirecourt at about midnight, on 08/19 on Epinal between 1 pm and 10:30pm

ISS again... ?

Discussion:

Map.

I do not think that observation is that of the International Space Station (ISS): the reported maneuvers, turns, descent, ascent, as reported, are certainly not quantified precisely but unless they are invented, they are undeniable.

Not seeing what it could have been, I leave the case "unidentified"; but its reliability is not very good and its credibility is unknown.

Evaluation:

Unidentified.
