ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mulhouse, on May 18, 2011:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2011-05-18-MULHOUSE-1

Summary:

The story was anonymously deposited on May 25, 2011 on the blog of a Mulhouse resident who thought he had seen UFOs on June 12, 2010 - they were actually Chinese lanterns.

The participant in this blog indicated that he dwells in front of the Tower of Europe in Mulhouse and in the night from May 17 to 18, 2011, unable to sleep, around 03:30 a.m., as he looked through the window he saw "something weird" on a facade of the Tower of Europe.

It was yellow-orange light, spread on several floors, on window panes and the wall of the tower.

He says it is hard to describe, it remained for a while, and was perhaps already there before he had looked.

Gradually it dissipated, leaving a V-shape on a window, then "went" and he was then able to see the lights of TV sets turned on in the apartments. He thinks the apartment residents had not seen the light or were asleep in front of the television, because they had not come to the windows.

I saw a wild thing on the tower of europe in the night from May 17 to 18, 2011 at about 3:30 a.m., i could not sleep and i looked by the window (i live opposite the tower ) and i saw a yellow orange light that was spread on several storey, the thing is that it was on the windows glass and the wall, it is hard to describe, it stayed for a while, it might have been there for some time before i saw it then it slowly faded leaving a V-shaped trace on one widow then it was gone, and at the place there was the light of the turned on tv sets, in my opinion the people in their apartments saw nothing because nobody was at the windows or they were sleeping in front of their tv sets thats it if someone saw the same thing...

Discussion:

Map.

I too resided for a few years just before the 1990s in an appartment opposite the Tower of Europe, it may have been the same... But not necessarily, the Tower of Europe is surrounded by several buildings and residences, and the witness did not specify where he was: so that one does not know on which side of the triangular tower the light was.

The phenomenon is exclusively made of light, like some light projected onto a wall of the tower (37 levels, 100 meters high); this is not a very typical "UFO" but it remains strange, because at that hour I see no point in projecting light for any reason onto a tower in a sleepy town.

I think there must surely be a trivial explanation, but I admit I found nothing.

I thought about the event "The Night of Mysteries" held annually in Mulhouse, where this mystery would have found its place, but found no clue of any projection on the Tower of Europe, and moreover this took place on May 14, 2011, not May 18...

Evaluation:

Unexplained, but not unexplainable.
