ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Souffelweyersheim, on August 7, 2010:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2010-08-07-SOUFFELWEYERSHEIM-1

Summary:

On November 16, 2012, a testimony made to the Alsatian ufology association SPICA was republished on the website of the "Réseau National Civil de Surveillance du Ciel" ("National Network of Civil Sky Survey") (RNCSC).

The witness reported that on Saturday, August 7, 2010, around 10:30 p.m., they were four friends chatting on a terrace on the 3rd floor of their building in Souffelweyersheim.

They then observed for 4 minutes the strange ballet of a small blue ball that would have been at a distance of 300 to 400 meters.

The witness said that one could well see that it was "a little ball of energy."

It first climbed vertically, leading the witness to believe that it was a firework, and then suddenly, it began to make turns, to the right, to the left, left, quickly, and taking amazing directions.

Gradually, it changed to a red color, then at once it took an intense white color, then it was blue again.

Then it lowered very rapidly diagonally. Witnesses were able to continue to observe it, although it was behind some trees, over a field.

The ball rose three times, each time diagonally, to again go above the field moving slowly as it wanted to fly over it, then it disappeared.

Witnesses stayed there "for hours" hoping to see it again, but they did not.

The author of the testimony wondered if other people have seen the same phenomenon, and whether there would be an explanation for this observation.

He reported that the sky was clear, cloudless, and there was no storm.

Observation of 08/07/2010 in Souffelweyersheim

Hello, on Saturday, August 7 at about 10:30 p.m., we were between friends (4 witnesses) chatting on a terrace on the 3rd floor of our building when we observed for 4 minutes the strange ballet of a small blue ball (distance 300-400 meters). The sky was clear, no storm or cloud. We could well see that it was a little ball of energy. It first climbed up vertically (I thought it was fireworks), and at once began to make turns, to the right, to the left, very quickly and take unusual directions. Gradually it changed to a red color to become at once an intense white and change back to the blue color. Then it went down very quickly in diagonal, we have continued to observe but behind the trees, it was above a field there, the ball rose three times and each time in a diagonal to go again above the field moving slowly as to fly over it, then disappeared. We stayed for hours to see it again, but nothing. I would love to know if other people have seen the same phenomenon and have an explanation for this observation.

Discussion:

Map.

This is certainly one of the few testimonies of that year with high strangeness.

It does in fact corresponds to nothing classic, this is surely not a plane, a Chinese lantern, a meteor, etc.

At best, it evokes something remote-controlled, there are many such devices: a remote-controlled balloon, a small drone, or a Led-equipped Frisbee; but some aspects seem to oppose it. There are no drone on the market at that time that could have produced the color changes reported, for example. A Frisbee could rise three times diagonally, but I do not see how it would come back to slowly overfly the field.

Now, let's keep a cool head: this is only an anyonymous story from the web, it could have been completely invented. It also lacks precise, angular, data, about the size, speed, comparative brightness of the thing. We are far from the "proof" it was an alien craft.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, possible alien craft.
