ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

RIXHEIM (68) 07/27/2009
Observed on: 07/26/2009
Rwgion: Alsace
Dwpartment: Rhin (Haut)
Class: D1
Summary: Observation of the move of a white luminous dot with change of direction and acceleration.
Description:

On July 26, 2009 around 10:20 p.m., a witness installed on his terrace observes the starry sky. He follows for 7 to 8 seconds the linear displacement S-N of a white luminous dot at an elevation of 25 ° to 35 ° which he assimilates to the displacement of a satellite.

Leaving this luminous dot for one or two seconds, the witness is surprised not to see it anymore on its trajectory.

However, he finds a luminous dot starting a turn towards the West of a duration of 2 to 3 seconds (in the direction of the aerodrome of Habsheim).

This luminous dot then takes a linear trajectory at high speed passing at the vertical of the witness.

No particular noise was heard during the 10 to 12 second observation and that ends at 11:48 p.m.

The witness remains intrigued by the overall trajectory of the luminous dot including a change of direction and the significant acceleration of the phenomenon without any noise being heard.

Even if there is no evidence that this is the trajectory of a single luminous dot, different assumptions are invalidated: aircraft passes (no radar track in the Rixsheim sector in the time slot 11:30-00:00 p.m., presence of stars (Jupiter too low on the horizon) and passage of a satellite (passage of COSMOS 1151-Rocket but at 57 ° elevation).

The phenomenon, although not very strange, remains unexplained. The classification D1 is justified by the uniqueness of the testimony and the impossibility of estimating the distance of the phenomenon.
