ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Haguenau Wissembourg, on August 20, 2006:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2006-08-20-HAGUENAUWISSEMBOURG-1

Summary:

On Monday, August 21, 2006, I received an email from someone non-anonymous about his observation of August 20, 2006.

The person told me not knowing where to report this, but stumbled on my website and noticed that I was also Alsatian.

She said to be from the Haguenau - Wissembourg region in the Bas-Rhin and that she saw in the night from Saturday 19 to Sunday 20, August, between 1:45 am and 2:30 am, above the neighbor's house about 10 meters of her, an oval-shaped UFO located about 1 meter above the neighbor's house.

The thing "was a nearly 4cm long" from where the witness stood - she specified she could not locate it precisely, not knowing whether it was near or far, or what its length was.

The thing reflected an intense orange light, with two orange balls on top, and the witness had "the impression of seeing through it or inside it; which "was troubling!!". The thing was motionless by slightly swinging up and down. Everything was strangely quiet.

The witness sais she verified that this was no discotheque lights.

Around 2:30 am, there was a strange buzzing sound and the pump of the neighbor's pool began to make abnormally excessive noise as if someone was holding the flow or if it was operating at full capacity.

Cows from the nearby farm started to moan as if they were afraid.

Then the orange disc slowly moved away and then disappeared "like a lightning."

The witness stated that she immediately called the military base of the Air Force in Drachenbronn, "where everyone laughed and told me that I should go to sleep..."

hello,

i don't know whom to talk to about what i've seen, i stumbled onto your web page by chance (moreover you are alsatian!!)

i come from the Haguenau- Wissembourg 67 area and in the night of saturday to sunday august 19-20 between 1:45 and 2:30 i made an observation... above my neighbor's house at about 10m from me there was an oval-shaped ufo at approximately 1m above the house and was about 4cm long from where i was i cannot locate exactly where it was if it was far of very close or what length it was. in any case it reflected a very intense orange light with two orange balls above, i had the feeling i was seeing though ot ot inside it .... it was puzzling!!il was on the spot but oscillated slightly up and down. and everything was oddly quiet. i checked that they were not discotheque lights. at about 2:30 there was a strange humming noise and the pump in the neighbor's pond started to make an abnormally loud noise as if someone blocked it or as if it was working at full power, as well as the cows of the nearby farm started to moan as if they were frightened!!!!! then the orange disc slowly went away before disappearing at flashing speed.

i immediatly called Drachenbronn at the military base of the ai force where everybody laughed and told me to go to bed .......

that's it if you have information on other appearances of orangeish lights, i would appreciate that you keep me informed!

thanks for reading and please believe that i am not crazy!!!!

The witness observed, above the house of his neighbor about 10m from him an oval phenomenon, about 1m above the house. The witness cannot give the distance of the phenomenon, it had an apparent size of 4cm. The phenomenon reflects a very intense orange light with two orange balls above. The witness had the impression of seeing through or into it. Around 2:30 there was a strange buzzing sound and then the orange disc went slowly away and disappeared in a flash.

Discussion:

Map.

When people report orange-colored lights, Chinese lanterns immediately come to my mind.

But in this case I am quite reluctant to this usual explanation. The "lightning-fast" departure indicated by the witness does not really fit.

Let's not even talk about the duration of the sighting; it seems to be from 1:45 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., i.e. 45 minutes, whereas a Chinese lantern is out of fuel in 4, 5 or 6 minutes.

The witness's remarks on the impossibility to provide a distance and a size to the phenomenon are positive indications to me, as it shows she is a lucid observer, not yielding to illusions usual among other witnesses who would have been quick to speak of a "flying triangle", giving distances and sizes that cannot be allotted to an unknown phenomenon or unknown object when there is no landmarks. She remained cautious and mentioned the feeling that there was no carrier mass for the three lights.

I will remain cautious on the pool pump anomalous sound and the agitation of the cows. The witness was right to report those but the fact remains that the relationship with the phenomenon cannot be proven.

Finally, I would note that except for the "Réseau National Civil de Surveillance du Ciel" [rnc1], all other sources have taken this report that appeared on my website without identifying its source, or claiming they are the source. And all diminished the amount of available information.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, possible extraterrestrial craft.
